I go in here for lunch all the time. I get the Salad alot. Its fresh and has a good mix of different greens nuts and fruit and the chicken is grilled perfectly. That's actually hard to get. Red made me, on the spot, a simple syrup for my friends Birthday. The atmosphere is homey and has a lot of sunlight so its a great spot for lunch.
I've been to the Borough many times, as recently as this week, and have never had less than excellent food and service. Redd, the cashier, is excellent at her job as are the kitchen staff and the owner is also very welcoming, always with a smile for you. I recommend The Borough to everyone without reservation.
EDIT: Forgot to mention, they make the best local hamburger I've had in a long time, and my bestie loves the sweet potato fries!
This is my favorite local spot to grab a bite. This is where I take friends. This is where the food is always yummy, the vibe is great, and they know how I like my sweet potato fries. From coffee and tea to icecream, breakfast to special dinners, there's something for everyone to love. Highly recommend.
It's a shame people are leaving fake reviews because this place has been a favorite of mine since discovering the area. We are an LGBTQ friendly family and have always felt welcome here.
Warm atmosphere. Always very inclusive, greetings for everyone through the door. Plenty of seating options.
Diverse menu.
Food is nice and they have books for kids! Every time I've come there's new art on the walls and we love the young black singer that comes here on occasion, I believe her name is Mimi. Ive never witnessed any poor nature while coming here and hope to continue to support the business when I'm in the area!
This place has it all!! I love coming here in the morning for my coffee and breakfast..
The staff is so nice and personable..I highly recommend this place.
Thank you to the staff for all you do!!!
The Borough is more like Family ✨🙏🏾💕 Every time I go in I’m welcomed with warmth, good food & the most pleasant individuals. Everyone there is kind hearted and is there to uplift and serve any customer who walks in with open arms & great hospitality ✨
Terrible customer service and treated me differently as a white customer but then were rude to every minority customer. crazy they haven’t been shutdown everything was cold and the staff was rude
While the menu is fairly priced, I wouldn’t feed this food to my pets. There are so many wonderful places to dine in the area this is not one of them. I recommend the staff receive training on Not being defensive/ offended when customers ask for their food a certain way. I’ve heard the cook and the lady at the counter become extremely nasty with customers for voicing their concerns over their meals. Some people aren’t cut out for the food service industry and this lackluster diner is one of them. Seriously don’t know how they have survived this long! Home grown is a 7 minute drive one way, Caleb’s is 8 minutes the other direction. You’ll have a better experience at either one of those places!
(UPDATE: We just received the refund, so hopefully the couple did too!)
My review was too long to post. So I am adding screenshots of it instead. Suffice it to say, they were extremely racist & cruel for no other reason than they can.
The Borough KC did respond to me in an email which is the same as below, but the response is equally as problematic as the initial experience.
Disappointing Experience – Poor Service and Food Quality
This place does not belong in the hospitality industry. A paying customer with a valid complaint about his scrambled eggs being overcooked was insulted by the server, who called him “unappreciative.” The cook—also the owner—refused to remake them and smugly said, “This isn’t your momma’s kitchen.”
That set the tone.
As for my own meal: my breakfast burrito was packed with bland rice and barely any eggs or beans. Given that eggs seem to be a recurring issue here, maybe they’re just in short supply. My wife’s pancakes were burnt on the outside and undercooked in the middle—completely unappetizing.
Coffee was okay, but there are far better options in the city.
I trained to work in this industry, and the inability to take feedback gracefully was truly disappointing. If you can’t accept honest criticism or treat paying customers with basic respect, you're in the wrong business.

Had a delicious latte and enjoyed the ambiance while a friend and I caught up <3
My friend sang here
Had breakfast today, it was simple and good, the black coffee was perfect, not bitter at all. The hot chocolate was not to my taste.
Great local spot. Nothing fancy, but good food and service.
Tried the Burough for vegan night! Would definitely recommend it. Don't forget to order the side salad without cheese.
