Food isn't that good. It used to be really good years ago. I recently revisited with my niece and invited two friends. The service wasn't good either. A little rude and not good with timing on orders. We ordered everything at once and she said she would have things timed on courses. We ate our appetizer and waited an hour for our entrees. She came to the table and asked if we want our entrees put in. It was strange to wait so long for our entrees and not be notified that she wasn't going to time it as she had said in the beginning. At the end we get a bill and I read I was charged a hospitality charge. We almost tipped on top of the twenty percent hospitality charge. It's a joke to charge 20 percent for hospitality when they clearly have no hospitality skills. I called to voice how it felt we were taken advantage of and the manager had an attitude as well. The manager argued with me and said it was posted on the website. I said it be one thing to charge it if you had great staff. So I won't return and don't recommend anyone to go to this restaurant. So many other restaurants. This place is heavily salted to cover up bad cooking.

I’m pretty sure we ordered the whole menu and every dish was a new favorite. The coal fired chicken sausage dish is pure magic! Thank you for re-opening just in time for my birthday! I love what you did for KC during the shut down but missed my favorite restaurant!

The Rieger is an historic place; the hotel opened in 1915. The menu is not extensive and changes seasonally. But the menu has items you don't often see such as sweetbreads or stuffed lamb's heart or rabbit sausage. The menu is divided so you can order a couple of smaller plates or have an opener and a full entree. Our waiter, Ryan, was very helpful in explaining the menu and offering suggestions. Our party of six ordered a variety of items and the courses arrived together perfectly.

Fantastic food! Amazing staff. Great time sitting at the counter and watching the kitchen work so hard!

One of my top 5 restaurants in the world. The open kitchen is astonishing to watch as they build dishes that always surprise and delight. The staff are also delightful - always helpful and attentive and pleasant. Highly recommended.

One of my favorite restaurants in KC! My husband and I have been here multiple times for dinner and it's always fantastic. This time my friends and I came to use our KC Passports so this review is solely for drinks! We sat in the bar area which is on the smaller side but were able to manage 3 of us at one of their high top tables by the windows. The hostess couldn't have been nicer when we came in just for drinks. I had one of their chateau Syrah wines and my friend had their horsefeather cocktail. Both of which were very good! My glass of Syrah was fantastic! Nice and smooth with a subtle fruity flavor. My friend enjoyed her horsefeather cocktail which was made with their J. Rieger whiskey, bitters and ginger beer. Great spot for cocktails or a night out! Especially with Manifesto right downstairs!

I believe his name was Gus. He was the best bartender I have ever witnessed. Cocktails were fantastic. He was a true professional, very serious about his craft. We will definitely be back.

Wife and I did a cocktail class here. The bartenders were friendly and extremely knowledgeable. Had a blast and will definitely return.

The Rieger is a great spot for a nice night out with friends or a significant other. Especially with Manifesto right downstairs. The food was well prepared and the staff was kind. It's pretty small in there and I would have liked a little more space, but that's part of the charm too. The old historical building is great and it's always nice to feel like you're experiencing the real Kansas City! Make sure you have a reservation for Manifesto too, because that's really the special part!

Had a fantastic night out at The Rieger for Valentine's Day dinner. Our waiter, Tim was amazing!!! It was our first time dining here and Tim took the time to walk us through the menu describing several dishes. In the end, I was undecided between 2 main course items, so I told Tim to choose one without telling me. He picked the pork chop. I am not embellishing when I say, this was by far the VERY best chop I have ever eaten in my life. It was literally amazing. Perfect night. Entire staff was on point, drinks were fantastic, food unbelievably good and Tim rocked it. Icing on the cake - after dinner, we went down stairs to The Manifesto (dark, romantic speak-easy) for some after dinner cocktails. Can't say enough good things about this place. Perfect night. Thank you Tim and staff. We'll be back very soon!!!

My husband and I went here with reservations on Valentines day with another couple. Immediately, we were told that we would only have the table from 5:30-7:30 and had to put in our order together. It was somewhat off-putting to be instructed as such, but they said they were busy and trying to get everybody's entrees in with a busy valentines day. Also we had a show to get to by 7:30, so I thought, whatever. However, our entrees did not arrive until almost 7pm. They really dragged out the process before then- after we had our small pasta order came, our waitress assured us that our entrees were coming out. Thirty minutes later, there was still no entrees. This was after I told the waitress that we had a show at 7:30, and she utterly seemed indifferent. I would have liked to enjoy my entree, but instead we found ourselves shoveling down steak in 10 minutes, and we were still late for the show. I'm pretty livid at this poor service. What's the point of good food if it's not served to you in a timely manner and you don't have time to enjoy it? How can you ask us to be timely in ordering and leaving the table by a certain time if we're not going to going to get our food? It does not seem that The Rieger cares.

The restaurant was beautiful, the staff was fast and personable. My drink was STRONG!!! Only problem I had was the front door was dirty as hell. But someone cleaned it so 5 stars for them. Great place to hang with friends
