The food is great here but no sushi now for some reason

Every time we go the portions just get smaller & smaller so that's extremely disappointing for the price we paid ($150 for four people). We found two hairs in our rice & the steak was bad. They even admitted to leaving the steak out of the fridge too long. The chef didn't even try making it a show like they usually do either. Just a very sad experience. Used to be a favorite dinner spot for our family but won't be returning again. A refund would've been nice

Food not as good as the last time I was there about 6 months ago. Prices have gone up and has gone down, very disappointed we were celebrating. Y husband's birthday.

Love this place! Food so good and you eat for days you get so much!

We love hibachi and this place was a disappointment. Spent $85 on 2 meals and 2 drinks and didn't even eat our meals. Very little flavor, only thing decent was the salad. Definitely won't be back

Absolutely loved it. Food was great and they even have yellow sauce. They don’t charge extra for sharing a plate either which is good since they give so much food. Definitely will be going back

As a Northland resident, I have been coming to the Tokya Japanese Steak House for over 25 years. Was sooo disappointed on my last visit, Dec 26 2024. My husband and I took my parents and daughter and BF there for my parents' 61st anniversary. We were shocked at how bad the food tasted and how the service has declined.
Issues:
*Drinks were watered down.
*The chef was extremely rude...avoided conversation with us and did not "present" the onion train, etc or act like he was happy to serve us.
*Chef didn't offer us the traditional yellow sauce or ginger sauce with our meal and when I asked if I could have some "yum yum sauce" as they have said it was for years, he argued that it wasn't called that and then would not offer it ro me.
*Customers are not allowed to split meals anymore on separate plates due to "inflation". Apparently one plate saves them money.
*Prices have gone up significantly and the product was not great. The scallops tasted old and fishy, the beef smelled old and was tough and the chicken was dry.
*Bathrooms were dirty and floors were sticky.
*The only positive was the sweet lady that brought us our soup and salads as well as our to go boxes. She gave us some to go sauces (yellow sauce wasnt the same as it used to be) on the side when I told her what happened. She was also very cheerful and kept our drinks refilled when needed.
I have been coming here for so long and always looked forward to this as a significant place to go for special occasions. I was in disbelief at how it has gone downhill in the past few years.
My daughter is a server so I know what the challenges of serving the public in a restuarant setting are. The chef here was apparently not trained on the same essentials for top notch service...it was non existent. Save your money (this place is not cheap) and go to Legends or OPKS.
So sad, but that was officially our last visit to what used to be an iconic place to eat in the Northland.

This restaurant was always good with food or sushi. It was sitting around the chef so best to go with others and not alone at this establishment. The food is good, as is the service. Is a traditional Japanese menu which they grill at your table. It is pricey so plan accordingly.

They charge for refills on soft drinks that are served in plastic glasses. Overpriced for sure. Our chef was really great though. Will never go back, not worth it.

Woof, this is a disappointing Hibachi restaurant. It seems like they have no one smart running this restaurant. Here are my complaints:
- Music was way too loud
- Chef did little to no show and forgot to salt and pepper all our mains
- The soup is not what you should be serving for a Japanese hibachi, there was spaghetti in it!?!?
- The chef cooked our vegetables last which seemed out of order and needed more types of vegetables besides mushroom, zucchini and white onions
- The floors were all sticky in the bathroom
- Place looked dark and just run down

Overall, there is potential but for now, you should skip over this place and go to the higher quality places in Overland Park.
