Grandpa's Ice Cream and Pies

Ice cream and Waffle cones really good. They have my favorite chocolate chip ice cream! Most places don't carry that flavor. Also "grandpa" super nice guy!

It's unusual for me to not read the reviews before visiting a shop, but my son and I are trying to visit a mom n' pop ice cream shop in each state and we were in Lake of the Ozarks just as tourist season ended and not much is open. It was a rainy and chilly Sunday and my daughter's 8th birthday, so probably no review would have kept us from going out for ice cream.
But alas, maybe I should have. The "Grandpa" was helpful and patient as our family of six made our selections, but in no way friendly, hospitable, suggestively selling or in the least bit seemingly grateful for likely the only business of the night.
The ice cream was average, but having the options of 40ish flavors, multiple cone types and accompaniments (e.g. brownies, pie, cookies) was great. Exactly what I look for in a shop.
The general ice cream shop decor is very dated but homey. I think the picture wall of 1st birthdays probably showcase babies that now have babies. But it's important to note that the other half of the store is absolutely unprofessional and somewhat offensive.
I'm all for small business, I go miles out of my way on vacations to support them, but I also expect an environment that is open to all walks of life and political thoughts. This shop was filled with for sale merchandise supporting one political candidate, including tshirts and signage with guns and ammo. We are a military family and I still felt uncomfortable with my children asking questions why the shirt said to shoot someone instead of calling 911. The number of US flag code violations was abhorrent. Hopefully after election day this will all go away.

I go to Grandpa's every chance I get. It's my favorite smelling place in the world. The prices are great and the scoopers are always friendly.

Great stop for ice cream at the lake. Busy on sometimes The pies look wonderful. Have not tried them yet.

Best ice cream in town!

Best ice cream we have ever had and we’ve had a lot in our 60+ years! Super big selection to choose from. I got the waffle cone with chocolate trim and it was perfect!! My husband raved how good the ozark turtle ice cream was. We are going back again before leaving for home. The store is a little bit off the main road so look out for it tucked back there because you do not want to miss it!!!

A real jewel. 1st time visitor, 40 flavors of ice cream. Homemade pies. Very reasonable prices. Highly recommend.

Must try the blueberry waffle cone flavor! It is worth the 40 minute drive to get a scoop or 2! First found this shop during the annual Magic Dragon car show. Ever since must go when we visit the lake!

I only got the freshly squeezed lemonade, and it was great. We stopped in during that LOZ shootout, where the entire road is shut down on this strip of businesses, so I cannot speak of how accessible it is to get to this shop. We weren't in the mood for ice cream, but they use cedar crest which I have heard is very good and they have a TON of flavors! The store is older, I wouldnt say run down, but if you went to your grandpa's house, you would likely see vintage/out of date things, which is what you will see here. I was helped by an older gentleman who made my lemonade, and as I waited for my drink, a young girl checked me out. Resonably priced, and fast service! I was greeted with a smile and "how can I help you".

Incredible ice cream & Best waffle Cone Ever !! Super Reasonable prices, especially in a tourist town

The place is a bit run down. But the ice cream and waffle cones/bowls were delicious Although the lady handling my waffle bowl did not use gloves when picking it up which was a little unsettling. The vibe is weird- for sure. There was a cardboard cut out of Trump along with a bunch of police/political shirts/ accessories inside the store. ( There is also a Trump/ political store next door, which made me wonder if it's the same owner or just like minded individuals). The political stuff didn't bother me, it just seemed out of place in an ice cream shop.

I mean, I would go back. The ice cream was good and decently priced- if you don't like the things inside, there are plenty of seats outside to enjoy it!

I asked Alexis over at brick house gastro pub, who had served us about any ice cream places, she recommended here but couldn't tell us if they had a dairy free option or not for our friend. I told her I'd leave a review here letting her know if they did or not, well they don't. But we managed to get something else and everyone was happy. Ice cream was good, no complaints.
