Not a terrible spot for some Americanized Mexican food, but I definitely prefer Tequila or Las Fuentes.
My Dad and I stepped in for an early dinner and were seated promptly. The atmosphere is very crowded with low ceilings, but we appreciated our booth which was tucked away from the crowd. Our server was Azusena, who was friendly and VERY quick, almost a bit rushed, but understandably so due to the amount of tables she was manning.
Our food was pretty good. My Horchata was large and very sweet, a great deal for $3. The Chips and Salsa were alright. The chips were a bit stale, but we appreciated the constant refills on the (somewhat spicy) salsa. I got the Birria Tacos which were good but a bit salty, and my Dad enjoyed his Tacos El Pastor.
Sure, we’d come back, why not. Not tomorrow, but in the next year if we’re in this plaza.

My boyfriend was in town visiting, and we decided to come eat here. I want to thank all of the people that work here for the great service they provided. Food was delicious, and the environment was even better. I also want to thank Azucena and Viri and all the other servers for helping my boyfriend surprise me with a yummy flan and a sweet message, they did a great job!! :)

I should have ordered dinner size combo and I thought I did but it was lunch size. Items were small. The steak Chimichanga had a weird Dinty Moore beef stew flavor.

I am almost 25. Me and my friend who’s a month older than me, went here for probably the 100th time. This time the lady took our margarita orders; proceeded come back 10 min later asking for id which is fine. walked away with them and gave them to her manager who came back with both showing he scanned them with some app that said they were fake? and told us he can’t serve us and asked if he wanted them to “verify” the ids (just threatening to call the cops) we said yes. He proceeded to come back 5 min later with our “fake” ids and said STLCO pd wouldn’t answer the phone; while i was already literally talking to them. this place clearly got busted or fined etc recently because they always have 18 y/os drinking w no issue.
just be aware if you’re not 50 you’re gonna get pressed about your age and his app is gonna say it’s fake.
The manager also was just extremely nervous and unsure of himself at the same time. very weird.

I did not enjoy my experience at this El Maguey location today. After being seated, our server asked me for our drink order. When he brought them back, I inquired about the margarita flight. The server brushed my question off and didn’t return for at least 10 minutes. When he did return, I proceeded with ordering the margarita flight. Of course I was ID’d, but the server looked at my ID for 2 minutes, shining it in the light as if it was fake. I am indeed turning 25 in 5 days. Once we ordered food, we never received the rice we ordered. ALSO, once my margarita flight came, I asked for a straw and he asked me “What for?” I did not enjoy my experience and I will not be returning. I felt watched and neglected at the same time. 0/10 experience.
