I recommend eating here. All we wanted was biscuits and gravy and it was the best we ever had. The wait staff is amazing. The food is delicious. And it when you walk in it's like walking back in time with the different decorations and the way the tables and chairs are all different. We'll also go back because we support any business that supports equality. It's hard to find that anymore since we have multiple family members in that community.

Danielle is absolutely wonderful and the rest of her staff is fantastic too. Always busy in there and amazing food. Loves that she sources things as local as she can!

This place is extremely charming, and the food is excellent. The quality and freshness of the ingredients really shines through. I've been thinking about the cardamom latte ever since I had it!

🍞Sleepy Opossum Café – Cozy Neighborhood Brunch in Springfield, MO

We stopped by Sleepy Opossum Café on a weekend morning for brunch and really enjoyed the warm, friendly neighborhood feel. The café was buzzing — we waited about 30 minutes, but the wait staff was kind and welcoming, which made the time fly by.

For our meal, we ordered a quiche, the “Breakky Salad”, and a side of biscuit and gravy. I especially loved my salad — fresh greens, tasty toppings, and a slice of their homemade rosemary bread that tasted just like it was baked with love. The quiche was a little dry for my taste, and the biscuit ended up being firmer than I hoped, but they were earnest, comforting dishes.

🌿 Sleepy Opossum Café is a charming, cottage-core–style breakfast spot in Springfield. The owner built the café with local, seasonal ingredients in mind.
It’s known for creative, made-from-scratch breakfast fare — think quiches with hashbrown crusts, cozy breakfast bowls, and fresh roasted eggs.

✅ Pros
• Friendly, welcoming service that makes you feel at home.
• Cozy, vintage-inspired atmosphere with fun, eclectic decor.
• Homemade rosemary bread is a standout.
• Variety in menu: from quiche and salad to creative breakfast bowls.

⚠️ Cons
• Menu items like the quiche can be a bit dry.
• Biscuits may be firmer than expected — softer might be better.
• When it’s busy (like brunch hours), wait times go up and seating fills quickly.

💡 Tips
• Visit during off-peak hours (weekday morning or early weekend) to avoid the longer wait.
• Try the homemade breads — especially the rosemary bread — as a side or with your salad.
• Ask the staff for menu suggestions — they’re friendly and know their dishes well.

Sleepy Opossum Café feels like a warm, welcoming corner of Springfield where you can slow down, savor comforting flavors, and enjoy a little nostalgia. Even if a few dishes didn’t hit perfectly, the heart behind it is what makes it a favorite neighborhood brunch spot — and I’ll happily come back for another cozy morning.☕️

I suppose it’s challenging to find good help. We had a party of four and said we could split up 2 and 2 if that made it easier. We were told to wait, with a buzzer, but not given a time. After 30 minutes we checked back in and were told it would be another 35 minutes and even longer if we split up. Would have been helpful to know ahead of time. We left and went to Tea Bar and Bites.

Alright, I'll start off with the positives because I did truly enjoy this cafe! I will be coming back, but I do think there were some things that make me a bit hesitant to come back again. The atmosphere and the food were amazing! The decor was absolutely adorable and so homey, and the general vibe was entirely cozy. It smelt absolutely delicious, and the music wasn't too loud or too quiet. The food was absolutely delicious, and I am certainly coming back for more hashbrown casserole. It was divine! The drinks were pretty good too! I would add a bit more variety though. I can't wait to see the winter menu and more!

Unfortunately, the service was not enjoyable. We waited over forty-five minutes for a four person table, and waited an hour and fifteen minutes for our food, with one person leaving in the middle of our lunch date because we were well over the time we had planned to leave. The parking is abysmal, and there are little to no places where you won't get towed. Our waitress only checked in with us twice, and the host (?) was not kind when seating us. However, the little over an hour wait for our food was what sent me over the edge. I'm going to try and come back during the week and see if it's a bit better, but serious improvements need to be made during the weekend hours before I try again.

SOoooo good! Every single thing we got was so delicious, and the cute atmosphere transports you into a late 80's kitchen vibe. The staff is quirky and sweet, and the location is in a great part of town. Love it!
