Great food, great atmosphere, great service! I wish I could keep this place a secret but it wouldn't be fair to Dani, or to the breakfast enjoying public.

As someone who has a lot of coffee/ breakfast meetings in my line of work, it's important to have "your spot." Sleepy Opossum is that spot for me. The breakfast sandwiches are INCREDIBLE (who would have known that jam makes the perfect topping on an egg, cheese, and potato biscuit??!?), the coffee is perfect black, and the service is always outstanding. All that and the vibe is super cool. If you're wanting to make someone feel like a billion dollars with a breakfast place, this should be your spot too.

One of my favorite spots in town! I love to journal & read while I wait for my food to arrive. And oh, the food! It is like a small drop of heaven landed into the breakfast dishes that I have eaten here. They are full of flavor, always piping hot, and served in a cute dish!I have a very fragile stomach (especially trying out new food places), so I admit I was nervous to try this spot for the first time. I found that my stomach had no issues with their food! Actually, I felt amazing the rest of the day because of how fresh it was.To top it all off, the people who work here are among the friendliest in Springfield. They are always quick to give me recommendations on what I should try. And they are constantly working so hard behind the counter.Thank you, Sleepy Opposum Cafe! You’ve easily become one of my favorites in Springfield!

It's almost not fair how good this place is. They manage to make comfort food that's completely original, which seems like a contradiction. It's quickly become my favorite breakfast in Springfield, and I like a lot of breakfast places in this town. I recommend it to anyone.

Moved to The Midwest after the pandemic and didn’t know what to expect with the food scene as a transplant from the east coast. Especially in a smaller town like Springfield. But I gotta say, this little spot does it all. And that’s a pretty amazing feat given that they space share with a bar that’s open in the evenings. Best part about that is the special events they do, like breakfast/brunch for dinner, etc. It’s pretty fun. And nothing about the experience eating here feels pretentious. The small team manages to handle a 8-10 table sized establishment, with a line sometimes out the door, with a consistent kindness rarely found being offered by other cafés. Especially drive through ones. The wait can be long at times. That tends to be the case during family weekends hosted by the local universities. But my food has never been cold and the staff have never treated me like a burden. The meals taste like a family reunion. The biscuits are dense, the coffee is hard to give yourself a limit on, and the room is filled with the kind of neighborly chatter that makes you ponder the next chance you’ll have to return, and try something new.

First Last

From a non-local, the rave about this place is far from worthy of my time, money, or future visit. The owner must be very well-liked by the local crowd, but these reviews are unfair to tourists. They don't answer their phones. They don't make it easy to find the door. They don't give more than one bag of tea for a massive amount of oak milk, priced at $8.50 plus tip. They don't produce a burrito that lives up to the description. They don't even provide napkins or utensils for a takeout order. Like, why am I eating a bacon burrito that literally has THREE different potatoes in it? Diced, barely cooked potatoes, plus a few tator tots, in addition to the whopping $2.50 "upgraded" cheesy casserole? Where is the meat? Or the green chile to help break up all the starch? I'm frustrated to have waited 40 minutes and spent over $40 for a potato-filled tortilla & piping hot oat milk. However, I will give props to the space sharing concept. For non-restaurateurs, it might seem odd, but space sharing greatly reduces waste of utilities and allows the operator to save money to return back to the business. I feel this is smart for their homemade concept, but not loving how it's not reflected in their pricing. It's also a moot initiative if done without care: Sleepy Opossum lives within The Royal, but the website & payment is registered as Dani's Flour Pot Bakery. Please fix this for your non-local clientele. It shouldn't be so confusing to purchase a meal from your potentially adorable concept.

I finally went in, after daydreaming of this place, and got the best slice of cake i have ever had. White velvet with apple butter and burnt caramel Swiss merengue buttercream. Next time, i'll be staying to dine in for sure ♡

Cute place with friendly people and nice outdoor seating. Slower pace, but worth the wait for their made from scratch food and yummy drinks.
