Actually took an order to go. 2 orders of Taco & enchilada rice beans combination. Delicious đ *** it also included a large bag of chips and salsa.
Best mexican food in Springfield
I am the GM of the Appliance store that's located next to the wonderful place. Great food and top notch customer service.
I had a really unfortunate experience at El Sombrero that left me genuinely disappointed. Iâm new to town and this is the closest Mexican restaurant to my house so I was excited to give it a try. When my food came out, I took a couple of bites and bit down on a staple that was in the dish. I set it aside on my plate and waited for our server, Jesus, to come back so I could let him know.
When we told him, he didnât seem to concerned he just asked if I wanted a new dish. Of course, I said yes, but I was surprised by how casually it was handled considering the safety issue and could have cut my mouth open on it. I waited for the replacement while my family ate their meals. I received my replacement meal and ate alone while my family awkwardly waited for me to finish. :/
At the end of the meal, I assumed they would remove it from the bill. They didnât. So we asked if anything could be done to make up for what happened. Jesus said the front desk associate, Jose, would take care of it. But when we went to pay, Jose said he couldnât do anything because they had already made me a replacement and I ate the replacement. We explained that I had only had a couple of bites before finding the staple, and that this situation wasnât our faultâit was an inconvenience of time and a safety concern.
Jose said the owners werenât there and that he couldnât call them because they were âtoo busy.â Weird, Iâm too busy to get my mouth cut by a staple here ever again.
I donât think itâs unreasonable to expect some kind of gesture in response to biting into a staple. I understand mistakes happen but itâs how you handle them that counts.
I regret not taking a photo of my plate and a picture of the staple, but I literally did not think it would come to this.
If the owners read this, Iâd appreciate the chance to talk and see if youâre open to making this right. We were actually planning to come back for Fatherâs Day to try the giant tomahawk steak. But after this, I seriously doubt it
Absolutely recommend 100%. The food was amazing. Came out super fast but fresh. We ordered 3 tamahawk steaks, a molcajete and a my mom ordered a chicken dish. All 8 of us and the 2 kids loved everything. The service was top notch as well!! We will definitely return.
I highly recommend this place! They had great food & amazing service. The owner came up to us and introduced himself and made sure everything was right. Amazing place.

Second visit, both on Sunday before the church crowd. Had the chimichanga this time, which was loaded with flavorful, slow-cooked beef and accompanied by great rice (with potato!) and the best refried beans I've had in Springfield.
Portion sizes are large, and prices are comparatively low, making this also a great dining value. With 20% tip, the bill for 2 was $36.
First visit, I had the El Sombrero burrito, which was stuffed with good skirt steak, cut properly.
Atmosphere is casual and the typical "we're in a strip mall so there's not much we can do about that," but the staff is friendly and efficient.
My dining partner's chile rellenos were good, although the chiles themselves were tough on the second visit.
Gratis chips that were warm when they arrived were served with good salsa. If it wasn't homemade, you could have fooled me.
All in all, this is the best Tex-Mex style Mexican food I've found in Springfield. I lived in Texas most of my life, so I'm pretty critical, and El Sombrero is doing it right!

Food was disappointing, tortilla chips tasted store bought and not freah. the Al Pastor tacos were very dry and not much flavor. Tacos drowning in onion and half chopped cilantro.
Chipotle Pollo was kind of a mess, you REALLY taste the chipotle and weirdly mayo in the sauce. Very wet, drowning in whatever that was.
The rice had potatoes and green beans in it as well, which I have never seen before and now I know why. Not good, just doesn't belong in Mexican rice.
The only real attraction at this place seems to be the massive amounts of alcohol and the giant tomahawk steak you can get for like $100.

The food was fantastic and hot. Very well priced. But our waitress was so rude and giving us ugly looks when we asked a question. This was our first time here and we told her that. She seemed super annoyed when we asked her anything. Even threw the chips on the table after I asked her a question and never refilled our drinks. Attitude is everything to me seeing as how I work in retail. For this reason we won't be returning sadly.
