I mean it was fine, but the bussers and wait staff were behind us and were cussing and talking loudly, which I know this is a downtown resturant but the music was not very good and not vibey at all. The food was exceptional but not meant for dates especially since change of ownership. I will probably not go back.

We had a great experience at Kai. We had to make multiple modifications to our reservation and they were very accommodating. Their service staff were friendly and the food and drinks were delicious!

I had high expectations for Kai, especially since my reservation was made quite some time in advance. Unfortunately, it was not upheld. The hostess was rude and tried to push us into taking a table right by the front door, despite my reservation specifically requesting an upstairs table. I also mentioned it was for our anniversary, yet nothing was acknowledged or celebrated, and I felt like we were treated worse than the walk-ins around us. After a 45-minute wait, we were finally seated upstairs and able to order, but the whole experience was frustrating and disappointing. If you're planning to come here for a special occasion, I wouldn't recommend it. The young hostesses seem unable to properly manage reservations and, instead of accommodating us, tried to guilt us into settling for a subpar table. It's clear they don't take your special night seriously, and that's a shame for a place that should do better.

As soon as my wife and I walked in and announced we had a reservation the hostess wished us Happy Anniversary (I had put this note on Open Table). We were then taken upstairs and put into a corner booth which I had requested a booth. Very nice experience and wonderful staff!

Absolutely phenomenal food. But service is so bad! Went without any drink for almost 10 minutes as multiple servers stood in a corner and talked and discussed left over sake from another table.

Great food. Great service. Upstairs' booths are very cozy and romantic. Happy hour prices are killer value.

We enjoyed our visit to Kai. Two members of our family were returning, while for the rest it was a first experience. The ambience and service were good, but the food did not quite live up to the expectations we had. The hot rock appetizer was good, and consisted of six thinly sliced pieces of beef served in a marinade you cook on a hot stone at your table, similar to bulgogi. The kids really enjoyed it, but a small stone and the spoon accompanying the dish instead of tongs or a fork presented a challenge in heating it. The gyoza were good, but a little over-salted. The chicken teriaki was a hit with the kids, as were the ramen bowls. The presentation of each dish reflected care and creativity, especially so for the sushi rolls. The drunken tiger roll was pretty good, but the maki maki beef roll, while not bad, was forgettable. Overall, the dinner was good, but while I had hoped to have found my new go-to place for sushi in Springfield after hearing my family rave about Kai after dark, I remain unconvinced. I am looking forward to returning on a weekend night to try their sashimi/nigiri, and hopefully will have more to commend.

Overall, great value, great food, great service. If you want a more romantic/quiet setting, sit upstairs

Perhaps the worst service I've ever had. Got there when they opened, we were the first customers there, we ordered, drinks came out and we waited and waited(38 minutes) appetizer came out, then 7 minutes later food came. I had to ask for another beer then before we had finished the waitress asked to take our plates that still had food on them we were still obviously eating. Apparently the $100.92 we spent weren't enough. We still tipped 25% but will never be back or recommend to anyone.

Went for lunch at Kai first time today. Extremely impressed with atmosphere, staff, quality of food, excellent variety of menu options and beverages. I used to only dine At Haruno and they are food but hands down Kai After Dark is the hot spot!

Ordered three different sushi rolls for takeout, and they all tasted the same, like chewing slightly warm rubber rice. Zero flavor. If this was the first time I tried sushi, I would never attempt to eat something so horrific again.

High quality food and service 10 out of 10 will return again. Literally everything was perfect.

Great place, lovely people working here.

I had the chicken teriyaki, and a matcha crème brûlée, with a side of teriyaki noodles. As always it was amazing.
