Tried their buffet and the food was cold and hard everything tasted like it had been sitting. Ordered beef fajitas separate and ended up getting some kind of mixed plate I didn't order. Ignored by the waitress. Went to pay and even then the cashier was annoyed because no one gave us a ticket to pay. Definitely wouldn't recommend and Definitely won't be back.

Tacos El Gordo #2 is hands-down one of the best taco spots in Springfield. Every time we visit, the service is fast, friendly, and consistently on point. The staff is attentive without being overbearing, and they always make sure our food arrives hot and fresh—even during busy hours.
Their dollar taco nights are a game-changer. You get incredible flavor and quality without breaking the bank. The meats are perfectly seasoned, the tortillas are warm and soft, and everything is made with care. Whether you're grabbing a quick bite or feeding a crowd, they never disappoint.
What really sets them apart is the atmosphere—welcoming, clean, and full of good energy. It’s clear they take pride in what they do, and it shows in every detail.
If you're looking for great tacos, great prices, and even better service, Tacos El Gordo #2 is the place to go. Highly recommend!

The buffet foods weren’t too bad. Good for lunch. For dinner, probably not as there wasn’t enough options. Will return for lunch.

It was me and my boyfriend’s first time going there. I saw their $1 taco special on Mondays/Thursdays. We decided to go because I heard good things about it. I was excited and I love mexican food so I was really intrigued.
We got there, we weren’t greeted at first which was no issue. We got sat at a table almost directly in the sun and there was already zero AC happening in that building. We sat down and waited almost 25 minutes to even get water. I was nearly breaking a sweat and would’ve loved a water but just got chips and salsa instead. Other tables that were sat way after us were getting drinks, appetizers and their orders taken before we even got asked what we wanted to drink.
They kept giving us chips and salsa even though we were ready to order. We had 3 different staff members come up to us and ask if we were ordering. We said yes each time, they walked away and didn’t come back to take our order. The staff acted like we didn’t even exist yet every other table seemed to be enjoying themselves. I’m a patient person and this was honestly beyond me. I’ve never experienced service like this before let alone being flat out ignored by their staff.

I’m shocked at how poor of a service I had. I still don’t want to believe it happened. We arrive to a restaurant that’s even hotter inside than outside. My girl and I wait for 25 minutes before we were even brought water. We were brought water by the busser, not even the server. On 3 separate occasions someone new asked to take our menus when we haven’t even ordered yet. Many tables came in later than us and were served before us. The margaritas clearly came from a mix from a store and not homemade. This restaurant needs leadership and organization. I would describe my visit as too hectic and chaotic. I will not be back.

I saw some buzz on Facebook about an authentic Mexican buffet in Springfield, so the next morning I jumped in the car and made my way to Tacos El Gordo #2 on South Campbell—and let me tell you, it did not disappoint.
From the moment I walked in, the atmosphere was clean and welcoming. I was seated right away and invited to help myself to the buffet. And what a spread it was—homemade tamales, baked chicken, menudo, pozole rojo, caldo de res, Mexican rice, and perfectly cooked frijoles. Everything tasted fresh, flavorful, and genuinely authentic.
At just $13, it’s an absolute steal—and the buffet is only available Tuesdays and Sundays, all day long. Honestly, it’s worth the drive, even if you’re coming from an hour away. Highly recommend if you’re craving the real deal!
