My Dearest San Louie,
I sit this evening by the flickering light of a pine-knot fire to pen thee a few lines concerning a most agreeable repast we enjoyed upon the eve of the New Year. Though far removed from the smoke and clamor of the casino floor, our little party—composed of several comrades who, like myself, are fond of a venture at cards and possess certain privileges from the comp'ing quartermaster—repaired to a fine eating-house in St. Louis, the name of which I shall withhold lest it draw too great a crowd.
We had taken the precaution to secure our places in advance, and upon presenting ourselves at the appointed hour, found our table in readiness, as though the establishment had been expecting our very arrival. No sooner had we crossed the threshold than a server pressed upon each of us a complimentary pomegranate margarita—a spirited beverage of Mexican origin, most refreshing after the chill of the winter streets.
The room itself was appointed with a dignity that put me in mind of the old mansions of Forest Park: dark woods richly polished, professional attendants who moved with precision yet without stiffness, and ample space between the tables so that one might stretch his legs without encroaching upon his neighbor. The atmosphere was one of quiet refinement, a welcome respite from the rough fare of the smoky floors.
My filet of beef was prepared with uncommon skill—seared without yet retaining a tender heart, possessing that agreeable resistance which marks the difference between mere softness and true excellence. Our waiter, a fellow who gave his name as Serg’, proved both swift in his duties and pleasant in his manner, attending us with a readiness that never descended into familiarity.
In sum, dear friend, the evening proved the brightest jewel of our holiday leave, a memory I shall carry back with me to the floor. I confess some astonishment at hearing certain grumblings from our Hoosier brethren who, it seems, presented themselves at this same house without having first secured a reservation—and that at one of the finer steakhouses in the City! One might as well expect to quarter in a gentleman’s parlor without invitation.
Pray give my love to family and friends. I remain, as ever, thy affectionate steak lover.

I can’t give the food a review but the hostess was rude and unwilling to help us get a table. But catered to a rude lady behind that yelled for a bigger table for a bigger party! We left feeling not impressed!

Five stars all the way. 1904 Steakhouse nailed it, perfectly cooked steaks, great sides, and a relaxed, upscale vibe. Huge shout-out to Jeff, who was friendly, attentive without hovering, and made spot-on recommendations. We’ll be back!

From start to finish, we had a fantastic experience. Brittany, the manager was so welcoming and made sure our visit was top notch. Our waiter, Chris was very knowledgeable about the food and he was so kind. The man filling our water and cleaning the table even helped to make our night memorable. The food was delicious and our steaks were cooked perfectly. The pumpkin cheesecake was the best ending to our meal. It even had a mini slice of pumpkin pie on top. We will definitely be back and highly recommend 1904 steak house.

Our appetizers and salads were absolutely delicious. The bread is also very good. The disappointing part of the dinner was my $65 ribeye. It was so tough that I could not eat it. I only ate around the edges. It was mostly a comp dinner so there wasn't much that they could do to make it better
besides make me a new one in fact, they didn't even offer. We did have a mishap one of the servers knocked over a tray therefore, some of our party didn't get all their food at the same time. Two peoples steaks were cold by the time they received their sides. I do Realize that accidents happen, they just could've handled it a little better. They did offer us free desserts so I guess that was something...

Everyone is so welcoming - Karen greeted me with a smile as she led me to my table, Chris knows the menu well and made excellent recommendations and Jason made sure everything went smoothly. The food was outstanding especially the beet salad and the halibut was cooked perfectly. Thank you.
Everything was well prepared and very tasty. The wait staff dues a good job. It's not the best I've ever seen, but it's good enough. We've been three times now. The biggest downside is that when you go in, you have to enter through the casino main entrance. The smoke and noise are a detractor for an otherwise very nice establishment. But once you are seated, you can't tell at all that there is a casino next door.
Kid-friendliness: They were nice to my two boys.
