Sado

Sado 5201 Shaw Ave, St. Louis Japanese • $$$$

“A friend and I went out on a Sunday evening to celebrate my student loans being forgiven and her move to a new condo. I made the reservation well in advance and looked over the menu to see what I might want.

We got there when they opened. Our table was right by the bartender in the front area, and due to all the shaken cocktails, it was intermittently difficult to hear each other. We did all right, though, sharing about our lives, mutual friends, and upcoming plans. We had some edamame and roasted Brussels sprouts, steamed buns, and a maki roll apiece. We also each ordered the Chop Shop, a cocktail/mocktail that went towards an employee's top surgery. Always nice to support other trans folks and businesses that behave like real allies.

The price was completely reasonable for what we ordered. It's certainly a place I'll return to when there's something else to celebrate. But I'll try to get a seat away from the bartender.”

“There are not enough stars to rate Katie’s. I needed a place to accommodate a large but unconfirmed number of guests for my husband’s retirement lunch. I spoke with Janelle a few times and she listened to everything I had to say. I was concerned about people traveling from all over and not having a precise headcount. We opted for a reservation in the main dining area and Janelle, Simon and the entire staff exceeded every expectation I could have had. They helped move tables around as more people showed up, they gave great food recommendations and were overall just very helpful and personable. They even treated our group to complimentary tiramisu and ricotta donuts. The mascarpone crema was incredible. I don’t know when we will be back in St. Louis but Katie’s is already on the agenda! Thank you again for such a wonderful experience!”

“What a cute little shop! I love a dainty sandwich shop. ☺️They have other food too of course. I got the sandwich that had the prosciutto and it was so great ?. Very filling. Really only need half I’d say. Also it came out really fast. Also got the coffee soda ☕️?because it sounded super unique!! That was a little odd though lol kinda just tasted like orange soda. But I applaud them for trying! It’s a small spot but they have a decent amount of bar seating! Would definitely come back to try their pizzas because those looked amazing lol.”

“I want to start by saying I LOVE GIOIA'S.... However they did something today that is totally wrong. I had placed a four sandwich order with work colleagues. My order was a roast beef sami with AU JUS... with out the AU JUS the sandwich is dry and not very desirable. It was delivered by door dash and the AU JUS was forgotten. I asked for a refund and was told that they are not able to do this as the AU JUS is complimentary. WTF is that !!! You guys are better than this and I would expect for you to make right on a mess up that YOU made. I think it will be a while before I order with my colleagues from Gioias. Its a shame because we were going there at least once a week.”

“This is the face of a VERY happy birthday boy. The driver was professional, and very kind to the children. Multiple people around the area were excited to see the ice cream truck too. He did our party and other sales. How he managed that I will never know. Because the kids were coming in left and right. I was excited that this business had sonic the hedgehog ice cream. But they exceeded my expectation on the variety of treats. We purchased bracelets for our party guests so the driver could know they were with the party. It worked out beautifully. I was actually able to purchase extra sonic the hedgehog ice creams and snocones! I will definitely be using them in the future. Great reasonable price and so friendly.”

Waffle House 10221 Page Ave, St. Louis Breakfast • $

“BEST FOOD IVE GOTTEN FROM WAFFLE HOUSE!!I went there at about 10 after two in the morning after placing an online order for a blueberry waffle with two eggs, grits, bacon, and raisin toast. It said there was an approximate 11 minute wait time and it took me just about 11 minutes to get there, and my food was ready and waiting for me when I walked in the door. I asked the server if I could please have butter and syrup and such and she had already had everything in the bag that I would’ve ever needed: four butters, three syrups, sugar packets for the grits (just in case I wanted it) and two packets of silverware. The only thing I needed to ask her for was apple butter and she gave me one for each piece of my toast, which was amazing! I came home and took pictures of the food because it just looked like it was going to be delicious. I wanted to put this review up before I didn’t do it and I’m getting ready to fall into a food induced coma. I highly recommend this restaurant anytime of day. They’ve never disappointed!”

White Castle 806 S Broadway, St. Louis Fast Food • $

“White Castle is a St Louis Staple fast food restaurant chain that dates back to over 100 years! A historical favorite! There's a lot of food and drink options to choose from.
I ordered four cheeseburgers with extra pickles, fries, and a large drink to go from this location. After I drove away and started eating, I noticed that the burgers were not fully cooked. They are normally grey through and through, but these were still pink across the middle. I usually like my meat completely cooked. That's just my personal preference. I ate them anyway because I was hungry and had a 30-minute drive. The food was still good overall. Always be sure to check your order before leaving. Lesson learned.

Adriana's on the Hill 5101 Shaw Ave, St. Louis Sandwich Shop • $

“What a joy it is to walk into Adriana's when there is no line! (RARE!) That would be, maybe, right after opening, or just after the lunch rush, around 2ish, and things are wrapping up.

I like to call in my order, but still have to wait in line to pay. Part of the meal is soaking in the atmosphere of checkered top tables, and a lot of history.

If you like soup, ALWAYS ASK. The minestrone is out of this world. I think the soups change like St. Louis weather, so you never know what it'll be. Chicken pea was the last one I tried and it was just as awesome as all the others.
Everything tastes like mom made it (if she was Italian and a stupendous cook.)

If you haven't been here yet, and I mean YET, get yourself in! They do have veggie options, and other items besides sandwiches, but you really should give the sandwiches a try. My go to is the Gorgonzola dip that comes au jus. If I'm less hungry and wanting something less hearty, Sunny's Veggie is a nice choice. The bread is fresh from the Hill, and you can tell. The sesame seeds once warm on the bread with butter and garlic really send you to heaven for just a second.”

“Woofies is just a really solid hot dog, hamburger, and Italian Beef place.

The dogs are the star of the show. Chicago style and others. Really good hot dogs. The best I've found in STL.

However, don't discount the burgers and Italian beef. The burgers are smash style, and done very well. Classic fast food style, but done very well.

The Italian beef I can't really judge. Its a new sandwich to me, so I can only compare 5-6 other places. Its legitimately very good to me, and I occasionally get it over a dog or burger.

Fries are good, but not amazing.

They have cherry coke, which is relatively unusual and appreciated.”

Excellent food, service, and management. Much better and smarter than J. Gilbert’s who got us a bad steak and wouldn’t apologize if or replace it. They just shrugged. “I was excited to visit here and the view of the campus made my anticipation grow even more.

There was free parking here, so that was pleasant. It was labeled Budweiser Tour & Biergarten Guest Parking Only.

My significant other and I went inside and I was impressed immediately. We walked up to the front desk to see the tour options and went with the Day Fresh Tour. This included the Clydesdale Stables | Beechwood Aging Cellars Historic Brewhouse | Bevo Packaging Day Fresh Beer | Trolley Ride. Cost: $15 21+ (Day Fresh Beer). Duration: 75-90 Min. Our tour was at 4:00 PM. They had plenty of seating, so we sat down while we waited.

The Clydesdale Stables were an amazing stop. Anheuser-Busch Home Of The World Famous Budweiser Clydesdales Since 1933 was on a sign before the entry. There was a lot of history here. I’d say Lloyd was my favorite.

The Beechwood Aging Cellars and Historic Brewhouse were both awesome parts of the tour. There was a lot to learn in each of them.

I was given a poured sample of Budweiser. The beer was crispy and refreshing.

The Bevo Packaging was an interesting stop. There was a lot going on and production seemed pretty wild.

I was given a Day Fresh Beer with the tour and it ended up being a 25 oz. Michelob Ultra can. It was a tasty beer when I had it at home.

The Trolley Ride was short, but sweet. It was a smooth ride.

At the end of our tour, we were taken to The Biergarten for a complimentary beer. I chose Budweiser and the pour was fantastic. We sat down at Table #302 for a little bit. The beer was crispy and refreshing as well.

Before we left, we stopped inside the Anheuser- Busch store. This place was big and had a lot of different items. I ended up getting a Bud Pen for $2.00 and a Wrench keychain for $2.00. The prices weren’t bad at all.

The service throughout my visit was hospitable. Every employee I encountered was kind.

Overall, I’m so glad I came here. I loved all of the areas we explored. It was worth the price and left me feeling accomplished after my visit. I would love to go again someday.

Date of visit: Jul 8, 2024”

“We did the Day Fresh tour on a Thursday morning (10:30am) in June. The tour lasted about 90 minutes with several stops during the tour. We visited the Clydesdale horses and stable, fermenting and bottling buildings, sampled beer while we learned about the ingredients in Budweiser beer, took a trolley ride back to the staring place, and ended the tour with a 20oz draft as part of the tour. Also part of the Day Fresh tour, everyone over 21 was given a bottle of beer that had been bottled less than 24 hours before. This tour was great-make sure to spend time in the gift shop after the tour. So many fun gifts and souvenirs. Highly recommend!!

“Ive been to the St. Louis location and just visited the Chesterfield location for the first time on Saturday. At 6pm they were pretty much sold out of meats, but I was able to get some ribs and corned beef. I think everything is brought over daily from the St. Louis location, so I imagine it can be hard to estimate business daily. The corned beef was awesome and a nice changeup from the brisket (which was phenomenal at the St. Louis location). The ribs were also stellar but I was pretty full after the corned beef plate. Their plates are 1/2lb of meat which i think is more than the typical place around serves. I am from MA and have tried a lot of popular BBQ places in the area but Stellar Hog has been my favorite by far. I think they could use a spicy traditional BBQ on top of the sweet. The heat level from the bbq pit beans would be great as a sauce. But the spicy alabama sauce is great on the brisket and corned beef. Keep doing what you are doing and dont take shortcuts! nice smoke ring on the meats and the food is hot, not served straight out of the warmer it seems. Two thumbs up!”

The food, a harmonious blend of flavors and freshness, left us utterly speechless. Opting to share our selections among the three of us, each dish we sampled proved to be a culinary masterpiece. It was evident with each plate’s arrival that they were crafted with meticulous attention to detail and a dedication to using only the finest ingredients. From the irresistible appetizers to the delectable entrees and divine desserts, every bite was sheer perfection. We found it impossible to choose a favorite, as each dish offered a sublime combination of simplicity and flavor. The service was equally impressive, with the staff effortlessly balancing fine dining attentiveness with a laid-back charm. The impeccable timing of each dish’s delivery, coupled with the staff’s friendly yet professional demeanor, made us feel genuinely cherished and attended to throughout the evening. If I had to highlight one dish that stole the spotlight, it would undoubtedly be the wahoo fish with asparagus cream sauce. Caught fresh by the chef himself just days before, it stands as a true testament to Farmhaus’s unwavering commitment to sourcing the freshest ingredients. Truly, each dish we enjoyed was a culinary revelation, from the irresistible beef carpaccio with its luscious ancho spiced whipped cream to the rich and savory osso bucco, and the remarkably tender and flavorful beef skewers. And let’s not forget the delicately sweet strawberry tarte, a perfect ending to an exquisite meal. “I've been a regular at this amazing tap house for a few months. I cannot sing enough praises about the welcoming staff and the comforting environment. The beer is as top notch as the staff. I would HIGHLY recommend anyone to come in!

That being said, something negative has happened with some of the food. The first time I had their jaegerschnitzel, I was in heaven. I have ordered it many times since then and have not been disappointed until recently. The last two times, the meat has been unfortunately dry. I am confident that the talented kitchen staff will be able to figure out what needs to be rectified.”

“Lombardo’s Trattoria is my absolute favorite restaurant in St. Louis, and I’ve been a loyal customer for my entire life. They have never disappointed me once. Their calzoni appetizer is unlike anything else and one of their specialties. They also have the best toasted ravioli in St. Louis by far. Their steaks are cooked to perfection and my favorite item is the seafood linguine with olive oil sauce. They can customize just about anything and their menu is unique and expansive. They only use the highest quality and freshest ingredients. The portions are generous and their specials are creative. The atmosphere is upscale, yet not stuffy, and all the staff members are incredibly personable, kind, and friendly. Lombardo’s is truly a St. Louis institution and one of a kind.”

With all of this I would have to say the garden (outside seating) set the experience to a new level! Maybe partly because it was a rainy day but listening to the fountain, the gentle rain and watching the birds take a bath made the day. We have already planned to meet at Cafe Nova again.”

“This is one of my favorite restaurants. It has a wonderful Mongolian barbecue along with an incredible assortment of Asian foods. Their hot and sour soup is one of the best I’ve ever had. The sushi is very good and the service is always been polite and very attentive to clear plates. I have never been rushed as I enjoy talking endlessly to friends while eating here. The bathrooms are elegant and very clean however, I think the bathroom doors are very heavy. I believe that is why they are usually blocked open. They also have very quiet hand dryers. The lobby is also elegant , the doors are hard to open because there is a very strong air handling system that keeps fresh air circulated I enjoy bringing friends here For a relaxing meal and conversation. I highly recommend this restaurant to anyone looking for a good place to eat.”

“First time visit. Went for our anniversary. The attention to detail was excellent. We've spent a lot more at similar steakhouses and haven't had nearly the wonderful experience as we had here! Being seated by the manager was a nice touch. Prior to going, the only thing we knew was that it was attached to a Holiday Inn, which made us suspect and we thought we'd be severely disappointed. But since it got a good rating on Yelp we chanced it-- we're so glad we did! The cocktails were delicious and interesting. The wine list superb. We LOVED the salads that arrived "family style"- a Caesar and a mixed-greens salad choice. They came with homemade dressings that I wanted to drink from the bowls! Our steaks were cooked to our liking. I ordered the filet Oscar style and it was delicious! There were many choices of sides from which to choose. We ordered the whipped potatoes, asparagus, and the pepper cream sauce for my wife's filet and they were all yummy! Finally, we were given a free large slice of their "wedding cake" (vanilla cake with a phenomenal almond buttercream frosting) for dessert and devoured it! Don't hesitate going here. We think you'll enjoy it as much as we did!!”

There was 5 of us and we decided to sit at the bar. And I'm sure glad we did. We had a bartender, I forgot her name, but she had purple hair, she was the absolute best. Not only did she make amazing drinks, she made sure our food came out right and hot. She also entertained us the whole time we were there, by engaging in conversations. You don't see that very much these days. If there was a word better than perfect, that's how I would describe it. I'll definitely be sitting at the bar more often.”

“Ok, here’s the thing… I love food. And when I say I love food, you might think I’m a huge person or a food critic or a chef or just a dramatic fan. Well, I am actually an artist, and I… I can tell you in no uncertain terms, that the food we received was *high art.* I don’t mean the kind of pretentious high art food that is served in tiny portions and so beautiful that you almost don’t want to eat it. I mean that it was masterfully created—flavorful, textured to perfection, filling, and lamentable *only* in that I wish I’d had room for more. We started with the stuffed mushroom appetizer—which I’ll admit is not usually my favorite, but my wife generally loves—served upon a sprinkle of arugula and a slashed drizzle of balsamic glaze. Imma tell ya… I like stuffed mushrooms now. My wife ordered an entrée of eggplant Parmesan—one that she doesn’t care to make often for herself only because (and I’m quoting), “It’s a pain in the a$$ to cook.” I ordered linguine Pomodoro with added shrimp and had the steamed mussels appetizer served with my entrée, so that I could add them in (as I *do* love a tutto mare). Since my wife’s entrée was one of her favorites, and I don’t generally care for it, I left her to it, concentrating on my own. I shucked all the mussels and strained their accompanying shallots and bacon into my linguine leaving the garlic and cilantro pesto behind for bread dipping. OH [*clap*clap*clap*]—I forgot to mention the bread. They served a fantastic mini loaf of the softest bread topped with caramelized onions alongside fresh grated Parmesan in olive oil. Upon our finishing it off, I asked for a second helping. Back to the entrée… My first actual bite was of the mussels, and that bite was fantastic. Then I had one of the shrimp… and… here’s the thing… I am a poet, and I also write children’s books, so when I tell you that I simply do not have a superlative sufficient to describe the shrimp, you know I’m being serious. It was warm, seasoned, and snappy as shrimp should be, but it gave me pause—as Anton Ego in Ratatouille. * First, doubt—that I had experienced something so specifically wonderful before * Then, a quick scan from childhood to now for confirmation * And lastly, the comfort that can only come from those happiest memories of childhood—Christmas mornings on receiving more than you could ever have hoped for, Halloween nights’ preparations for what giggles and terrors were to come, and burrito-you ensconced in soft blankets straight from the dryer Then of course, the rest of the dish, twirled and slurped—not too quickly… every bite a confirmation and yet still a revelation. Here again, my only lament that I must see a portion of it boxed to leave room for dessert. And… dessert. Oh, boy… Seeing all of the items, my wife and I—in celebration of our 26th anniversary—decided on the sampler. Listen up, folks: flourless chocolate torta, crème custard napoleon, and gooey butter cake. JFC are you serious? Every bite more sumptuous—more scrumptious than the last. Every bit a reassurance that I will return. Our server, Chelsea, was commendable not only for her menu knowledge and sense of humor, but it’s not for nothing that she was absolutely on top of it with regard to my tea refills (which were many, as our dinner took place after a dehydratingly-busy workday for me). We will definitely be returning to Eleven Eleven, whereupon I intend to try a few different items, my palate then flooded with new sensations—new wonders… my only lament that I will not ever have that “first time experience” again.”

“WHAT GOOD FOOD. Genuinely the best chicken I have ever had in my life. We had potatoes prepared three different ways and we didn’t feel overloaded by the end of the meal. The staff were super kind and the food was so delicious. I am not a big fan of the seemingly here-to-stay restaurant trend of serving very expensive large plates with intermediate prices on small plates, as that can sometimes feel like a ripoff depending on the amount of food you get, but this did not feel like a ripoff. We got decent portions for the sizes and were full by the end of the meal without spending $50/person. I think it was ~$120 for 4 people, including tip, and we got a whole chicken, four small plates and drinks and dessert. Pretty decent amount of food for the price. I will certainly be recommending Brasas to others :)”
