avoid the late night menu/experience

I would avoid this restaurant if you want a smooth and quick dining experience. Decent food but they must be very understaffed. We ordered 4 sushi rolls. They took 45 minutes to come out. The server only gave us 3 sushi rolls, apparently they didn’t have the correct ingredients on hand for the 4th we ordered. Why didn’t he tell us sooner? He didn’t check on us very often in general…we had to flag him down a couple times to put in our next drink order. Anyway, we ordered a different roll as substitute for the 4th roll we initially ordered and never received. An hour goes by and no food. Turns out the chef hadn’t even started on our order yet. It had been 2 hours at that point and we had to go home so we cancelled the order and left. I’ve never had to do that before. Very disappointing — sushi dates are a rare treat for us, so having a good experience is a high priority. We will not return to this restaurant for a sushi date again.

Being a seasoned world 🌎 traveler, I always look for the best sushi 🍣 around and keep coming 😋 back for the delicious cuisines here at Blue Ocean on Delmar in the Loop & the impeccable professional hospitality from Corryn that has excellent communication skills. Thanks for another great experience ✌️

This is my friend's favorite place to get sushi so we checked it out after work. The decor is all about gaming and anime which is why it's his favorite.

We started out with the gyoza and popcorn chicken and then enjoyed the caterpillar roll and the house recommended La Flama Blanca. Y the gyoza was nice and crispy. The popcorn chicken was dredged in a very light tempura flour making it crispy yet not heavy. The rolls were both beautiful and tasty.

I decided to check out Blue Ocean for dinner, upon arrival it was pretty quiet and I was swiftly greeted and seated by friendly staff. The atmosphere leans heavy into Japanese pop culture oriented decor including retro anime and kaiju themes with a little bit of a cozy izakaya energy, and the menu leans heavily into the same Japanese inspiration and is complimented by a whiskey and drink bar. I ordered the goons and takoyaki as appetizers, the goons were well fried, layered, and crispy with a filling that was nicely seasoned to separate it self from the general crab rangoons you’ll find across the STL area, the takoyaki were soft and chewy however the flavor was a little overpowered by the oil it was fried in. I ordered the spicy miso ramen with onsen egg, Godzilla roll, and chashu don, the spicy miso ramen broth was well seasoned and had a good body however it was not spicy, the pork and onsen egg were well cooked and melted in the mouth, the Godzilla roll was a unique blend of creamy, chewy and crunchy delights, and the chashu don was pleasant and the pork melted in the mouth the same as the spicy miso ramen’s pork. If you’re looking for a fun Japanese themed outing and dishes, you’ll very well find Blue Ocean fits the bill.

Very disappointing. Thought it might be slow but I can see why no one was there place needs a total makeover from top to bottom or close the door. Service was iffy at best. Sushi was comparable to something you get from grocery store. My kids and I ordered the spicy beef Ramon and the waiter told us that they didn't have much beef but wanted to give us an appetizer and this is 30 minutes in and only like 3 other tables. The common courtesy thing would have been to ask us if we would like to try a different protein not to just short us the meat and give an appetizer for 3 people to share. Tried getting the waiter back to just cancel the order with no luck. Just left the money for the sushi that we actually ate and left.

I've been coming here for a long time and used to absolutely love it. Service has gone massively downhill, staff is completely clueless and unresponsive, just an unbelievable waste of time all around. Not sure what happened but my friends and I won't be back.

I was very hungry and went to eat some delicious sushi rolls. It took them about 10 minutes to bring me my drinks and 1 hour to bring me my 2 sushi rolls. The service is so terrible, even though the food is delicious, it takes so long that it even makes you feel hungry. I finally ordered my food to go after so long ?

My family went here for dinner. I usually enjoy Japanese food, but I’ve never seen such a small portion of nabeyaki udon before. There was barely any broth, and it was so bland that it tasted like water. The amount of noodles didn’t even fill half of the bowl. We also ordered a special roll, and to our shock, there was a fish bone inside. My child almost hurt their mouth eating it. We ordered katsudon, but a different dish was brought out. The server insisted I ordered something else, but I had specifically come for katsudon and didn’t even know the name of the other dish. How could I have ordered something I didn’t even know? The server said they would change it, but even after we finished the other food, we waited a long time, and the Katsudon didn't arrived. The food wasn’t good, the order one was wrong manu, and we waited long time. Even though we ordered two nabeyaki udons, combined, they were barely the size of one bowl from other restaurants. Our family’s nice evening was ruined, and we left without saying much to each other. I felt really disappointed. I don’t think we’ll be coming back here again.

Super chill spot to grab a bite and fun drinks. A little pricey for the size, it’s giving denver but in STL…. Still delicious though! I had two rolls, some apps and a few drinks. The French 69 and the Sega Gin-esis were yummy. Sushi deal was decent $7 for regular rolls. Rolls were good sizes too.

Server was kind and service wasn’t quick but I was also not in a rush :)

Blue ocean hasn’t had spicy beef ramen on their menu for quite some time they recently just got it back but they failed to tell me before I ordered that they changed the recipe taste more like spicy duck noodles honestly the place has slowly falling off since Covid and I really hate that , their California rolls are delicious tho!!

This has to have been the FRESHEST and most delicious sushi I have ever had. The spicy miso ramen was IMMACULATE. Our host was super kind, and helpful. I came from Chicago looking for an AK47 roll that i hadn't had since 2010, but unfortunately its no longer on the menu. ?
I strongly suggest you visit this spot for your sushi & ramen fix!

Great experience! Food was fantastic I loved everything. Loved the sushi presentation so nice. Some of the best crab ragoons I've had. It has so much filling which I appreciate. I could smell the gyoza before it even got to the table, phenomenal.

We also had the warm sake very tasty. The whole atmosphere was so chill I felt at ease and very comfortable.

I definitely will recommend and can't wait to visit again ?

I enjoy my visits to Blue Ocean, but I don’t feel like their service is nailed down. I most recently went on Saturday night with my boyfriend. The server wiped my table off and pushed all the rice onto my bench by the window. And throughout dinner, he was pretty inattentive. We waited about 20 minutes for him to take our check and we were one of the last tables in the place. I appreciate the lower price point and fun decor, but the service is lacking.
