If you're looking for a delicious and authentic Thai meal in St. Louis, look no further than Chao Baan. This hidden gem in The Grove offers a wide variety of dishes from all over Thailand, including the ever-popular pad thai, crispy spring rolls, and tamarind whiskey. The pad thai at Chao Baan is some of the best I've ever had. The noodles are perfectly cooked and the sauce is flavorful and balanced. The crispy spring rolls are also a must-try. They're light and crispy and the dipping sauce is delicious. If you're looking for something to drink, the tamarind whiskey is a great choice. It's tart and refreshing and pairs perfectly with the food. The service at Chao Baan is also excellent. Our server, Leon, was friendly and attentive and made sure we had everything we needed.Overall, Chao Baan is a great place to enjoy a delicious and authentic Thai meal. The food is excellent, the service is top-notch, and the prices are reasonable. I highly recommend

I came here for dinner because I was craving Thai food. Upon arrival, I was immediately seated at my table, and a server came to get my drink and appetizer orders. I knew what I wanted the moment I sat down. I ordered Thai tea, eggroll, and beef Kua Ling. The food was okay, and it was bland. I was expecting so much flavor, like most Thai food places I have visited. I guess this place was a spot if you wanted a quick Asian food when you are super hungry. The interior of the restaurant is cute, and it is very welcoming. I wish the food were better, though.

Great spot for takeout that has been in my regular rotation since Covid. FOH staff is always great and the kitchen is always fast, even in a rush I don’t think I’ve ever waited longer than 30 minutes here. Their consistency has really improved over the years as well, at this point I think they are one of the better Thai restaurants in the city limits.

This breaks my heart to leave this review but I just have to say it.I’m still giving 5 stars because all of our other visits were fantastic. The service we received last night was fine. The server seemed like he was having a bad day. That is fine as well. We are human beings and we are entitled to our emotions. However I didn’t appreciate the rudeness he displayed towards my husband right in front of the manager. He cut my husband off while he was talking as if he wasn’t standing there. This behavior was displayed after I already paid the bill and tipped him. I didn’t ask for my tip back because that would be a crappy thing to do.My husband and I just wanted to add our meal points to his email account like we’ve done many times before. Instead of the server saying that he didn’t know how to do it and instead of him asking someone who did. He decided to tell us a lie like it was a fact. This is the first time we’ve ever had a problem with a server. If we decide to come back and he is present we will simply ask for someone else or just leave if no one else is available.

The restaurant is lovely. Beautifully decorated and lots of seating.Service could be a little better. They weren’t about any conversation. Just taking orders and bringing the food.Drinks were decent… strong. The food was delicious. We tried the kha soi and spicy kee mao noodles. Both were excellent. I suggest skipping the cucumber salad. Nothing to write home about and not what I imagined. I’ve returned twice since the initial visit.

Fantastic little Thai place in the grove. The ambiance is quite solid for a date night. The food was very good especially at the price point. I've had Thai that's double the price and not as intricate or tasty. We shared the Massaman Curry, Khao Soi and Thai fried rice. Honestly all three were great, just depends on the mood you are in. Absolutely loved the sweet sausage with the Thai fried rice I'd recommend adding it. I think my fave was probably the Khao Soi though. It's a dish that's different from what I usually get at a Thai place. So many textures in one dish that worked well together. Server was very helpful too. Definitely will come here again!

Visited the area for work and decided to try this thai place since I've heard good things. The server was great and the restaurant is cute/ambiance is good. The drinks were great and appetizer (fish cake) was good. However, the pad see ewe was very heavy on the soy sauce and is salty. The noodles were thin and not the normal wide thick rice noodles I'm used to. The flavor just wasn't there for me. The papaya salad was good but just too sweet even for a medium spice. The steak salad flavor was great but the meat itself is very dry - not sure if it's just the area but the meat was lacking. The pad thai was mushy since it was overcooked. I didn't like it very much. The flavor isn't bad but doesn't really taste like pad thai, just like stir fry noodles that's been soaked too long and then cooked which caused the mushiness of the noodles. The sticky rice itself was also mushy which was disappointing as well.Overall, the flavors were okay. I'm not sure if I would recommend this as a good place to go for authentic thai food but good for drinks and appetizers.

Visiting St. Louis with family and was told this was one of the best Thai places around here. I love Thai food and can get a lot of great options in Chicago. My expectations are a bit high. The restaurant has plenty of space and is modern and sleek. It wasn't crowded, so we were seated quickly. We did family style with the dishes so everyone could try things. No alcoholic drinks, but we ordered hot tea. Our waitress was friendly but was a little slow and took awhile to bring everything we needed. We started with the cucumber salad, spring rolls and potstickers. My favorite was probably the cucumbers. They were a vinegar base and had crunch/flavor. Spring rolls were second- the dipping sauce was really good. The rolls were crispy but a bit mushy on the inside. The potstickers were my least favorite as the filling inside was just ok. For our main dishes we got Pad Thai with chicken (mild), Beef Nam Tok (mild), Spicy Kee Mao Noodles with chicken (medium) and Massaman Curry with beef (hot). My favorite dish was hands down Spicy Kee Mao Noodles with chicken. It had great flavor with a kick. The Massaman Curry was my next favorite. The dishes we got in mild to me were more bland, so I was a bit disappointed. The Pad Thai is very average, so I wouldn't get it again. The Beef Nam Tok was similar. I would go back, but stick to certain dishes they do well. I wish Yelp allowed half stars! Overall 3.5/5

The place was pretty empty when we came in so the service was fast and the food came out quickly. It was a cute restaurant with lots of natural lighting so eating there felt refreshing and vibrant. We ordered Khao Soi, first time trying this dish. The coconut-infused broth, especially with the chicken, is flavorful and well-balanced. The interplay of crispy and soft noodles adds a nice texture, making each bite satisfying. The pickled mustard greens and shallots bring in a tangy kick that complements the richness of the broth, and a squeeze of lime ties it all together. We also ordered the Pad Thai, and that was a decent dish as well. We come from major food cities such as Houston and Chicago so Asian food over there is definitely overall better. However the Pad Thai here was seasoned and still held its own. Both were straightforward yet well-executed dishes that hit the spot, earning it a solid 4/5 in my book.

I used to love this place, however, they've gone downhill over the years and gotten cheaper. When ordering out, the portions don't equate. The khao soi liquid barely covered my noodles. Tonight was the final straw. They've cut the potions in half and they've moved away from being authentic. The pic is of the broken up fried noodles that typically come with Khao Soi. They're stale and gross and tiny. They're not the egg noodles that are typically fried and put on top of khao soi.
