Very personable and so sad he has passed away. It is an honor to experience and see the chef in action in our very own smallest big city St. Louis. It wasn't crowded at all but is definitely beyond a traditional Chinese restaurant. Glad to share the same name. You will be missed ! 06/20

One of the better Chinese restaurants I've been to in quite awhile. Would have preferred the Hunan style to be spicer, but, that is just me. Will remember to ask for added spice.

I've been to this restaurant several times in the past usually great service you sit down and somebody waits on you then you pay your bill and leave. This time the lady waiting on me claiming to be the owner I don't know if she is or not, I told her I'd be dining in she had me place my order at the counter and then pay for it. I used a credit card for payment and didn't leave a tip I hadn't even received my food yet.I was planning on tipping cash after I ate my food and she waited on me she treated me as if I was a carryout customer that's okay but I was not a carry out customer. She got mad that I hadn't tipped her like I said I hadn't even receive my food yet, said I insulted her I replied you haven't even waited on me yet I tip based on service. The conversation ended with her raising her voice.... I demanded that she give me a refund so I could leave. Like I said I hadn't even received my food the cook hadn't even started cooking it.

Went to Chef Ma's to pickup dinner on the way into town to visit parents. Dad wanted sweet and sour shrimp, and although not on the menu, they made it for us anyhow. All our entrees we're delicious. Going to be my folks' go-to for Chinese!

I enjoyed their Crab Rangoon appetizer and Pumpkin Shrimp entree (that's shrimp and pumpkin pieces). The flowers on each plate are made from carrots. I am very happy I decided to stop here today. The staff is very friendly and treated me well. They have two menus, one more American and one traditional Chinese. I will return to sample more of their offerings!

Reopened after the founders untimely death. Not the usual Chinese menu. Surprised to see few diners. Wish them the best

Still great even after the sad news of Ma's untimely death. Specialties of the house are great...well prepared and presented for take out in very nice serving containers. Hooray for Chef Ma's!!

We discovered Chef Ma's after the pandemic began and so we have only experienced take out meals. We have had the best experience - the food is perfectly prepared, there are offerings that are unusual and fun to try and if you need help deciding, the staff can help you pick. Highly recommend this spot.

1 star for service 4 stars for foodSo lets start with the good the Hainan was juicy and the pork belly in the twice cooked pork was delicious. Now lets get into the bad. First off the menu is confusing. We actually wanted the Hainan chicken with rice. Instead we got the empress chicken which is just Hainan chicken no rice. It's also more expensive but I assume it gives you more chicken. The menu is very confusing and while it's in 3 different locations around the restaurant it is different in each location. It's very confusing. The server also weirdly upscales your meal. She brought out green beans that looked like they'd been out a bit. She put them on our table and told us they were the house specialty. Then she asked if we wanted them. We thought from the looks of it someone didn't pick up their order and they were just trying to get rid of it/thought they were on the house. We felt awkward so we took the cold green beans. When we checked out we were paying full price for them. We paid without any argument because we did eat them but we would caution anyone else in this situation to just tell them no thank you and hand it back to her. It's a weird way to push the house special. Finally we felt bad when we went up to pay because we saw a sign when we looked down at the counter that said no dine in. Unfortunately this isn't visible and no one told us this. Several other customers also missed this sign. We would recommend they place this on the door and next to their menu to reduce confusion.Perhaps when they hire more staff the service will improve but we saw some reviews afterwards that make us think this weird service may be more common so just wanted to warn any future customers of this. We do wish the restaurant the best though.

Best Chinese food in St Louis by far. My only complaint is that they aren't right across the street from me anymore!

The veggie soup was absolutely delicious!! The very sweet lady at the register offered me free rice which made the meal even better! Hot & fresh tasting & the corn tasted very earthy but delicious. I always get it for take out but dining in was the right choice. The bowl they gave me was f*Viking awesome!

Just had my lunch take out and it was the worst Chinese I’ve eaten. They were out of crab Rangoon at 11am and taste was terrible. The price for $9.00 which is too much for what I had. 8/27/21

Just terrible so sorry to say. I ordered HotSour Soup and the worst I have ever eaten. I also ordered veggie dish and horrible. I took everything back and left. I was excited because Ladue News said there was a new location. Nope the worst I have ever eaten in STL for Asian food.

What an amazing restaurant. They have several menus to order from depending how authentic you want your food. It's an amazing place to get delicious familiar Chinese food but then if you feel adventurous you can try something more authentic. I'd highly recommend the egg drop soup.
