My favorite place for a great date night!! The food is fabulous, and customer service is always wonderful. The restaurant is nice inside and lots of tables. This restaurant is great for a date night, or a big party space with a large group of 4 to 10 guests, or possibly even more. Ladies restrooms always clean and fresh. Prices are good.

I am posting this review to document a concerning and unacceptable experience at Chimi’s Fresh Mex on Overland in St. Louis on January 19.
My companion and I are regular patrons, dining here approximately twice per month. We arrived at approximately 11:45 a.m. The restaurant was busier than usual due to a large party, which we understood. However, after being seated, we were left unattended for approximately 10 minutes with no server contact.
Eventually, a younger male host (approximately 16–17 years old) came to the table and asked if we wanted something to drink. Shortly after that, two additional staff members arrived, which suggested a lack of coordination in service.
After completing our meal, we noticed that the total on our check was higher than what we are typically charged for the same items. When we raised this concern, we were initially told by the younger host that there had been a billing mistake and that the table behind us had paid for our meal. Upon reviewing both checks, it was apparent that the checks were not identical, despite being represented as such.
We were then approached by an older male staff member (approximately 35–40 years old, with a full beard) who stated that a $10.50 gratuity had been intentionally added because we allegedly “did not tip on a previous visit.” I explicitly disputed this claim. We consistently tip, and on our prior visit I personally handed cash to the hostess to give directly to the server.
When I asked whether it was standard practice to add gratuity to a two-person table, the older staff member stated that gratuity is added “sometimes depending on the customer.” There is no posted notice, written policy, or menu disclosure indicating that discretionary gratuities may be applied based on subjective staff judgment.
Adding undisclosed charges selectively—rather than through a clearly stated, uniformly applied policy—raises serious concerns regarding discriminatory treatment, deceptive billing practices, and lack of transparency. Customers should not be subjected to variable pricing or penalties based on staff perception or alleged prior conduct.
Due to the manner in which this situation was handled and the explanations provided by staff, I no longer trust this establishment to bill customers fairly or consistently. As a result, I will not be returning.

We have been here numerous times always reliable. Tonight not so much. Service was terrible food was decent at best the prices have almost doubled in the last year. Unfortunately we lost a go to spot tonight.
