This was our first visit, and from reading reviews, it seems to be a bit hit or miss on what experience you have.
Ours was a miss.
The good parts that earned the 3rd star: it's quiet and it's easy to converse with people at your table, which is a huge plus for me. The staff we encountered were very friendly. The food and drinks were very tasty. The cocktails were also very pretty in addition to being tasty. They gave us a free slice of cake because we were celebrating a birthday, which was really kind.
The parts that kept this from a 5 star experience: We were seated (had a reservation) on the hour and the food appeared 40 minutes later. The appetizer we ordered when we ordered drinks had been forgotten, and when we enquired after it about 20 minutes in, the server said it was on it's way. Spoiler alert: it was not and never showed up. The entrees were delicious, but the side serving of pasta was quite scant. It's pasta, the cheapest thing in the world, you can be generous with the portion. We were celebrating a birthday and they gave us a free dessert with a choice of 3 different cake slices. The one we chose was out, but that wasn't relayed to us until a different cake came out and was set on the table. We were told, oh, we brought this out because we were out of the other. Now, we appreciated the kindness of free cake when they didn't have to do anything at all, but the gesture def felt like "here, be happy with whatever we give you!" because we would have chosen the 3rd option rather than the one chosen for us. So, that kind of tainted what could have been really kind, esp after forgetting our appetizer and the long wait for any food.
At no point did a manager come by to check on us, which esp after the lost appetizer and extremely long wait for food, also felt like a miss. That's just a normal thing to have happen at most nice restaurants, even when e erything goes well.
The bill was on the high side for the experience we had. We may try again some day and see how nice it can be on a good day.
We had planned to hit the rooftop bar after seeing the show at the Fox but decided against it based on this experience.

Commonwealth is AMAZING! From the food, the service, and the overall vibes, THIS is the place to go for a great meal. You have to try their grand burger which is honestly the best burger I’ve ever had, and they have excellent other items on the menu.
The staff was excellent and very attentive, and the place has a nice and calming atmosphere. I don’t know why they are rated lower than they should be. This is a 5-Star place

I ate there for dinner and breakfast and was completely underwhelmed both times. Sausage was dry, French toast tasted like insulation with store bought chemical syrup. The Caribbean jerk lamb was good, but didn’t have a jerk taste. It was cooked really well, though and had good flavor, but the rest was meh.
Great atmosphere with a lot of art and super close the the fox. I might try it again, but there are other nearby restaurants that are probably a lot better.

I stopped here with a friend after leaving Delmar Loop. The shrimp and grits were amazing, as was the salmon. The staff are super friendly and the atmosphere is great. The restrooms were clean, great experience all around.

Neat place! Really want to like it and tried dinner there for a second time. Underwhelmed. Muscles were overcooked and salty. Salmon and broccolini was OK. Blackened trout with asparagus was OK. Seafood ravioli was good. Won't return for dinner, but definitely will be back for drinks at the bar. Very nice people; server and food runners. Cocktails are excellent. Great spot to pop into before a show at the Fox.
From the service to the food, everything is excellent! I took my mom and a friend here for dinneer after seeing a show at The Fox. They absolutely LOVED everything about Commonwealth as well. We'll definitely be back.
We were a little early for our reservation, but they were able to seat us quickly. The food was amazing (thank you to the chef for checking on us as well), and multiple members of management also stopped by. I had the Seared Scallops and a Vanilla Old-Fashioned, and both the cocktail and the entree were fantastic.
First time here and we will be back. The burger was outstanding and big. The mussels and Caesar salad were delicious and large portions. Marco was a wonderful host and we enjoyed talking with him. Mikayla was our server and she was prompt, attentive and personable. I can't wait to try something different next time. We didn't get a chance to go to the rooftop so we will have to do that next time for sure.
We went before a show at the Fox! Make sure to make reservations so you don't have to worry about rushing to the show. They were very attentive and kind. We had the baked Brie, shrimp and grits, ribeye, and seafood ravioli! Everything was excellent!

We dined at Commonwealth on Saturday 6/1. Our friend who had the shrimp and grits declared them the best she had ever had! I had the snapper special, and it was delicious. Both steaks we ordered were really good. we will be back soon.
As this is my 4th visit in less than 2 months I can't stay away. The ambience is perfect. The servers are so accommodating. Tonight the fare began with the Brie appetizer. Nothing small about this deliciously creamy cheese in a light strawberry balsamic glaze. Course 3 was roasted chicken and smashed herbed yukon gold potatoes. I understand there is a seasonal menu change in the late fall. Cant wait to return. Special thanks and shout out to our “go to” server Emily.
Great drink menu. My wife loved the Lavender Breeze enough to have seconds. Sympathy for the Duke was very good. The Scottish Gentleman was smokey, if you like that. Apple flatbread was...okay. Chicken Marsala was also just okay, but the Red Snapper special was very good. Service was good and relatively fast, but we were there early before the restaurant filled up. Good choice before a show at one of the Grand Center venues, but maybe not worth a special trip. However, a better bet is a pre- or Post-show drink at the Art Bar on the penthouse roof (14th floor). Still the same drink menu with a nice view of downtown and Grand Center.
Must get the truffle fries, either as appetizer or with the burger. I had the red snapper special, but the blackened trout is also very good. Wine list could be broader, but reasonable mark up over retail. Open table does not take reservations over six, arrgh. A nice alternative to Curtain Call before a Fox theater show.
Our server Tiffany was great, food was delicious! All 4 of us thought our meal was excellent. I felt like the drink menu was lacking a bit in diversity of cocktails but I enjoyed my red wine.
