I appreciate the passion of the proprietors, but I really just need to see what ingredients are in the drinks and not the political and social views of the owners as listed on the menu. Most people have a nice drink to relax and enjoy the atmosphere, not to be reminded of social injustice. They try to be really creative with their drink selection, but I would say the drinks were average. The bookcase door was a cool feature.

The new menu is now just a far left-wing political rant on every page. Like left of left field. The left fielder is sitting in the 12th row catching foul balls. If you love politics with your cocktail then this will be your favorite spot ever.
fabulous little basement speakeasy behind a mostly hidden bookcase door. every drink was fantastic and the service was excellent.
it's pretty small so expect a crowd if you go late

One of the best cocktail bars we’ve been to in our travels! My husband and I love finding a nice cocktail bar for an evening when we travel and we loved it so much we came back the next night and would’ve come a third night if they were open on Sundays! The cocktails were incredibly original and so well balanced. Everyone was kind and helpful, and the space had such an awesome vibe to it. It will definitely be our go to spot whenever we’re in town.

if you’re an adventurous cocktail drinker, New Society is an absolute MUST.
a lot of the cocktails are food-inspired, so think savory and out of the box. these are cocktails you can’t get anywhere else! at least not anywhere i have found.
they serve traditional cocktails too, and truly have something for everyone!
give it a try, you won’t regret it!
only thing i wish is that the atmosphere was a little more decorated, and it wasn’t quite as dark. we often find ourselves using our phone flashlights to read the menu haha!
i mean, i’ll sit in pitch black to drink these cocktails, i don’t care. it’s worth it. but on the off-chance someone working there sees this review, it would be cool if it was a little brighter in there!

If you’re looking for a hidden of hidden bars, here you go. Tucked behind a bookcase and in the basement of Monstera Mezcalera, you descend the staircase into mostly darkness, lit only by creatively curated flavors in your glass. The menu changes often but they keep stalwarts which have proved the test of time. You’ll found their house old fashion, manhattan, and daiquiri are classic but flavorful (the best daiquiri I’ve ever had, like Hemingway and his cats dropped out of the ceiling and helped them make it).
The Birds cocktail was great, names for one of the paintings they currently are highlighting. Pro tip-don’t try to eat the origami crane, it is just paper, not a flavor blaster
Will definitely be back. Make a reservation through tock.

New Society Speakeasy in St. Louis is a hidden gem, blending vintage charm with creative cocktails. With dim lighting, cozy seating, and a prohibition-era vibe, it’s perfect for an intimate night out. The bartenders craft unique drinks that impress. A must-visit for cocktail lovers seeking something special.

We were disappointed to see the complete lack of care given to the aesthetics of the space. You’re literally in a dank, unfinished basement with pipes and worn furniture. Not chic or romantic. Just dark. Which is good because god save us from what it must look like in the light of day. It felt like if your friends dorky little sister wanted to “play bar” in their parents Midwestern basement and then started putting things like graham crackers and lychee in a blender to see if you could choke it down. My drink smelled and tasted like a TJ Maxx holiday candle and was undrinkable. You know that feeling when you think something must be a joke but it isn’t and then you realize the joke is on you for paying for it?

If craft cocktails with names like Beans and Cheese are your jam, or you really like hanging in your grandma’s basement, this is the place for you. It’s a hipster vibe for sure. And it is totally my fault because I thought I made reservations at Polite Society, which is just a little bit different. I will say that the fact that you cannot order a regular cocktail and have to order their craft cocktails is a bit of a bummer, but the service was good and the people were nice.

Chris and Mac are wonderful people who gave the most outstanding service. My husband and I went for my 40th birthday after a nice dinner and the atmosphere and drinks were just the vibe I wanted, we love trying new things and this place makes you do that! And honestly we rarely get good service and the service, friendliness, and just overall company from Chris and Mac was so great. Can't wait to bring people back!

I brought my husband here for a surprise for his birthday and it absolutely did not disappoint! Our bartender, Mack, was super friendly and made a delicious Manhattan and Pineapple! The perfect mix of everything. We ordered food from good time kitchen and I wish we would have ordered more! The menu rotates often and I didn't even take pictures of the food we ate it so fast ? but let me just say do yourself a favor and order some snacks, you won't regret it! My only negative (and it's soooo tiny) is that it took about 5 minutes for our eyes to adjust to such dim lighting and the staircase down was steep. We went on Thursday at 6 and were the only ones there. Apparently Friday and Saturdays you better make a reservation and I can see why. If you're looking for an experience, this is the place to go!
Parking: Meters stopped taking money at 7. Plenty of street parking, but again it was a Thursday night. Grand will get busy on weekends.
Wheelchair accessibility: Super steep staircase, and very dimly light to go down into New Society.

What a wonderful and thoughtful place. Staff were super friendly and welcoming. We got a couple of really innovative cocktails, enjoyed the menu immensely. Got a dish from the attached restaurant. Highly recommend!
