When I receive good service, I always leave a great review, and when service is lacking, I leave an honest one. This experience isn’t necessarily bad, but I do think there were some missed opportunities.
I first heard about Next Time Cafe through RealSTL News and went for lunch. It was amazing—the shrimp were hot and juicy, the potato salad was great, and the fries were perfect. The service was excellent, too. That’s why I decided to take my wife for dinner tonight. We love supporting businesses in North County, especially Black-owned ones.
When we arrived, we were greeted and seated right away. The waitress took our drink order—just water for my wife and a soda for me—and then came back to take our food order. We ended up waiting about 40 to 50 minutes for our food, and during that time, no one came to check on us or offer a refill on our water.
When the food finally came, it was disappointing. The shrimp were overcooked, the fries were too, and my wife’s Philly was way too salty. Even though we didn’t enjoy the meal, we still wanted to support the business. The owner kindly offered to cover the meal, but we insisted on leaving a tip for the waitress.
My suggestion would be to have whoever cooked my lunch prepare the meals consistently, and for the staff to make sure they’re checking in with customers during longer waits. A simple update on the food or a water refill would have made a big difference.
I hope you take this feedback to heart because I’d love to continue supporting your restaurant in the future!

The best home cooked meal you will get. The food was delicious and the service was great! If you go on a Sunday, you can catch a live band playing. Nice place to grab a bite to eat with family and friends.

Wasn't our first choice. Fortunately for us a new discovery of fantastic cuisine so delicious I had to order an additional entree to take home. Turkey chops were excellent, the chicken and steak Philly , the salmon croquettes with all the sides all excellent. Will definitely be back.

Their tripe is thin and they give you 3 little pieces. It's not worth it. I had a call in order and they charged me a tip for picking up my own food. I paid 14.45 for tripe meal with cheese fries. The meal is 9.69 with fries.

Everything was fresh and cooked to order and delicious. My mom ordered the pig ears and I had the salmon croquettes. Mona is a delight.

Sunday Funday!!!! What an awesome way to spend Sunday from 3-6, listening to a phenomenal band, good food, great atmosphere. You will not be disappointed. Oh, btw, lot's of big screen tvs to watch the game!

Food was amazing, best tripe I have had in very long time. I was only in town for the weekend and tried this spot , and it did not disappoint. Next I’m back I will definitely come and get some of the best food in the Lou!!!! Keep up the good work.
I would like to thank the owner for being a wonderful hostess to my husband and myself. The food was outstanding and reminds me of my Granny's house for Sunday dinners! We sat and ate in a very relaxed and friendly atmosphere. May your business thrive be prosperous! Thanks again!

Sunday live music EXCELLENT! However, I had to literally chase down service, then the person wanted to wipe down the counter instead of assisting the 6 people at the bar waiting for drinks. No smiles at all & they all looked flustered. Ordered a premium drink & for sure it was rail quality for $15 (couldn't drink). Dare I complain! Ordered a Chicken philly $15 worth about $7. Top of the bun was cold, bottom was grilled, but sandwich salty with the least amount of meat you can get away with? (Couldnt eat it) I just don't understand then of course I felt obligated to sign a tip. I came out expecting great food and great music! I got the music EXCELLENT! Coke and fries "Nexxt Time"!
