Nixta is located in the St. Louis's Delmar Maker District. It’s has an adorable vibe, excellent service, but the food was good but the ceviche left more to be desired. We ordered the ceviche with tuna and the carne asada tacos. The ceviche tasted a bit fishy. It was beautifully presented and I was excited to see the large substantial chunks of tuna. However, I think the larger chunks may have held the fishy flavor. It also comes with a small tostada shell and could benefit from a side of chips and a lime wedge.
The carne asada tacos were traditional smaller street tacos in a corn tortilla with a generous serving of carne asada that was well seasoned.

Beware! Everything is a la carte … not at all typical of a Mexican restaurant. My 2”x4” chicken tamale was $19.95 and it was the only thing on my plate! Cadillac margaritas were $30. Caution! The checks come with a 16% service charge and a foot note saying it is not the gratuity!
Interestingly the bill does not sub-total before the 16% service charge … likely by design so people tip on the 16% as well as the food.

PERFECT dining experience. I don’t leave reviews that often but I HAD TO for this restaurant bc omg it was an insanely amazing time. We got guac, a mezcal flight, I got tinga tacos, he got ceviche tuna, and we shared the tres leches cake. Standouts were the guac and the cake! The guac was so pungent and flavorful and the cake was so rich and creamy. The waiter saw me picking cilantro off my tacos and offered to bring it back to the kitchen and remove all the cilantro, which was so kind and above and beyond. We also got cocktails which were very interesting flavors and super refreshing and strong. Thank you for such an amazing experience!!!!

Overbearing service. Overpriced food that isn’t organic. Is it even local? Small portions. $29.95 for a cadillac margarita. No happy hour. There were so many disappointing things about last night’s dinner service. We were seated outside when there were plenty of tables inside sitting empty. Still empty when we left. Please go eat somewhere else. Oh and they have a built in 15% gratuity. It’s awful. Please don’t waste your time and money.

Food was delicious but portion sizes and value for money just weren't there. At $50 a person we shouldn't leave hungry.

I took a group there from out of town. The space is neat but the food is not so good. First off when you order salsa and chips the salsa comes in a tiny cup with a very small spoon that you have to used to put the salsa on each chip individually, which is super annoying and now everybody at the table has to finger a small spoon. The tacos were okay. The quesadilla was tasteless. The margaritas were expensive and not very good. My guests ordered some of the other entrees and none of them were impressed at all. The food is bland and has very little spice, something similar to what you might be served at a nursing home. There is so much good Mexican food in St louis, this place is trying to reinvent the wheel on Mexican food and failed. I really really wanted to love this restaurant. The food is also grossly overpriced.

Restaurantji Recommends
Came down for the Cinco de Mayo block party. Had an absolute blast sitting at the bar and taking in the whole vibe. The staff were wonderful, recommended some great drinks and a mezcal flight. Very busy event but they took great care of us!
Let's get straight to it, food was mid. Steak tacos was well seasoned. Besides the guacamole nothing else was worth trying.
They offered chips & salsa & charged for it. Wasn't worth the money.
We visit St Louis occasionally and we enjoyed Nixta at the old location at Tower Grove. The new building/location looks great but the food is no longer recommended. We sat near the kitchen and watching them use Costco brand tortilla chips from a bag was a bit shocking - given the price point of the restaurant. From my view of the kitchen virtually nothing is prepared fresh, just a cook at a flat top warming previously cooked items that came from plastic containers. I would rate Chipotle as being more flavorful and fresh, and it is 65% less expensive. Not sure if it's new ownership - but they are all about the profit and not the food quality or dining experience.
My favorite restaurant in STL! The vibe is immaculate and the food is phenomenal.
Highly recommend the Ceviche Mixto and PINEAPPLE TIRADITO!!!!! delicious
Too pricey. But good.
