Disappointing Experience – Would Not Recommend

I visited this restaurant while traveling from out of state, hoping to enjoy a nice breakfast. Unfortunately, I was very disappointed. I ordered pancakes and found several hard pieces in them. At first, I thought it was plastic, but after bringing it to the staff’s attention, the manager told me it was egg shells — apparently because they “make the batter fresh daily.”

Freshness is great, but egg shells in food are completely unacceptable. It’s not just unpleasant — it’s a potential choking or dental hazard. The manager seemed more interested in justifying the issue.

What’s worse is that after the experience, I looked through other reviews and saw that I’m not the only one who has had this problem. That tells me this isn’t an isolated incident — it’s a repeated issue that the restaurant hasn’t bothered to fix.

I rarely leave negative reviews, but this one was well-earned. I would not recommend this place to anyone. There are plenty of other restaurants that take better care in their food preparation and customer service.

They charge a 15 % gratuity fee for me walking into the restaurant and placing an order to go. And still forgot to put my hash browns in the bag. Ridiculous.

Delicious food! A bit pricey, especially that it doesn’t come with sides like hash browns. Most items are a la carte and breakfast was $20-$25 per person in our group. We had 6 (4 adults, 2 kids) and spent almost $200 with tip for BREAKFAST! But nonetheless, the food was tasty, fresh and our server was nice. I feel like this is a special occasion breakfast type of place.

First time here, everything was incredibly delicious. It is a little expensive but when you see the quality you get you understand why.

The food is 5/5..but the management is the reason I’ll probably never eat there again after placing many orders at the restaurant and to go. They are extremely greedy at the expense of customers. This place is always busy, yet they’ve raised prices at least twice in the last 6 months. Between price increases and misc. fees on to go order my last breakfast order was basically $30. It was just an egg special, no drinks, no additional sides. The food has become very overpriced. Also, any time I’ve had an issue with an order they are usually not able to resolve it due to their “policies”. As long as you have $30 to spend on a traditional breakfast plate and no issues with your order, this is a great place to visit. If not, don’t go.

I gotta tell you about this French crepe they make. No pie filling here. They make their strawberry sauce from scratch, in house. Gorgeous texture. Fresh whipped cream and strawberries made this dish a knockout. Will def be back. Worth the wait.

The magic of the Original Pancake House is the fact that they pay attention to everything. I’m a retired chef, and I can confirm that every pancake is made from in- house cultured sourdough batter, that the butter used is very high score, that the eggs are prepared with clarified butter and the bacon… it is Daily’s brand bacon and there’s none better. The service is great- at the Ladue location Cindy and Terrie have each been working there more than 12 years. The coffee is first rate, roasted by Dubuque coffee right in St. Louis. Orange juice is fresh squeezed right at the counter. It’s usually busy but there’s always a seat at the counter.
