Patty Long Catering used to be a wonderful company when my family worked with them for my sister's wedding in 2004. I had high hopes when I contracted with them for my October 2023 wedding, but unfortunately, they fell far short of my expectations.Throughout the entire planning process, the PLC team was extremely difficult to get ahold of, with extended time between email responses. It frequently seemed that I was repeating myself and that team members were clearly not communicating with each other. I diligently filled out all requested paperwork and guides, and provided my seating chart and guest food choices well in advance as requested, but on the day of my wedding, it seemed like no one had bothered to even look at them.We contracted for 16 servers to be on site for meal service, but only 10 showed up. The overall service of meals was slow and uncoordinated with servers bringing out two meals at a time and repeatedly giving guests the wrong meal, even though the choice was written on their place-card at their tables. We also paid extra for a special china pattern, assuming it would include the entire place setting as it was in the picture PLC provided me. Only some special dinner plates were provided and no salad or bread plates. Guest's dinner rolls were placed directly onto the table cloths as there were not enough bread baskets. Many of our guests ordered the filet mignon and they were served raw, inedible steaks, and when they asked for new ones, the replacements looked like they had simply been microwaved, no sear marks at all. None of the steaks had the port wine reduction sauce included. We had to ask multiple times for the one children's meal we ordered to be brought out for the child, even though it was supposed to be delivered first. We also had to remind the staff halfway through dinner that they needed to take our cake back to cut it.We had requested that our cake be plated and served to all guests while they were at their tables, not stationed. Patty Long Catering disregarded this and put cake slices on a table in the back of our reception room that wasn't even on our floor plan. As a result, the majority of our guests were not able to enjoy their dessert. We reached out to Patty Long Catering the day after our wedding and received a lot of excuses: servers and kitchen staff not being aware of plating processes, expectations not being clarified as far as the china pattern, etc. While we did receive some money back, it took multiple follow ups on our end, and I doubt we would have received any compensation if we had not called out their failure to meet multiple contractual obligations. While I was supposed to be enjoying my reception, I was feeling embarrassed and angry about how Patty Long Catering's disorganization and disregard was reflecting on the wedding that we had spent over a year planning. When you pay $15,000 for a service, a company should be able to meet, if not exceed, your expectations. Unfortunately, Patty Long Catering has clearly lost their ability to deliver.
I wish I could write a review based on the food that Patty Long catering provided but instead I will have to base this off my experience. I chose Patty Long to be a part of my wedding day - to cater the dinner at my reception. They never went over my timeline with me and in fact when I had my initial phone call with them I was told that the timeline put on my contract was tentative (as even stated within the contract) and that we would discuss the final details later. No one ever called me to discuss. There was one day a few weeks before the wedding that someone told me Ken would be calling but he decided against it and maybe that would’ve saved our wedding day. I gave my final timeline to the venue weeks before the wedding and somehow Patty Long still got it wrong. My reception started at 6:30 and they were not prepared to serve food until 7:15!!! On top of being behind to eat, everything else had to be completely reshuffled to accommodate their huge mistake. This created a dilemma with the DJ who advised that while people were still eating, we could not open up the dance floor and then pushed that back EVEN FURTHER. A day that had so much planning on our part, the most important day of our lives, and the caterer never once confirmed a timeline with us? Very disappointing. On top of this, I never received an apology for this huge mistake despite the Director of Operations being there at the reception. I had to reach out by email to complain and was met with excuses. And after I followed up with why the excuses were unacceptable, I was met with silence. Truly a sad experience. We spent over $9000 on the food alone after all the extra fees were added and we were robbed of at least an hour of our 4.5 hour reception. And not so much as a single offer of how to make it right.
My wife and I used Patty Long to cater our wedding. I can't recommend them enough, if you are searching for a catering place for your next event do yourself a favor and stop reading reviews and book Patty Long now. They were extremely professional, they were fast, organized, and excellent communicators. And they have the ability to customize every aspect of your catering needs so if you need something unique in regards to food or desert or cocktail hours or linens or even table placements and setup and tear down they can make it happen. Specifically we worked with Ken and he's a seasoned pro in this industry you will be in great hands. Also you get what you pay for, and they were worth every penny. Our wedding went extremely smoothly thanks to them and everyone raved about the food after.
Jaimie was incredible! We used them for our wedding and the food was so delicious. The staff was beyond friendly and anticipated us needing water right before the ceremony. I could not have asked for a better vendor!
Patty Long catered our wedding at O'Day Lodge in O'Fallon in May 2022. We had the pleasure of working with Kenny throughout the wedding planning process. He was kind, dedicated and professional. We decided that we wanted to create and custom menu to reflect our cultural backgrounds, and PLC was more than happy to work with us to create the perfect menu. They were receptive to our feedback and ended up making the most delicious meal we've ever had. It's not everyday that you can say the quality of the food was the same as the quality of service. Despite ever-changing plans due to COVID, PLC remained proactive and accommodating. We had so many compliments from our guests about just how good the food was! PLC made the night go by seamlessly and we couldn't be more thankful for everything they did.
