The food is good but the place has not been we'll maintained and no upgrades in a decade. Service is not best with only one server who's also the cashier and everything else. Need major updates on everything to make it worth visiting again.

We go here pretty often and the food is delicious. However I don’t think we can keep going because the portion size gets smaller each time. It’s disappointing because it really is good but 2-3 tablespoons of lamb CHUNKS is not okay. Thanks for the past 2years.

My favorite restaurant in St. Louis! I bring every out of towner I know here, and some beg to be taken back when they're in town again. My favorite dish is the eggplant biryani but everything is great here. Lamb shank, kebabs, Afghan muntoo, chicken tiki masala, sambosa, pakowra, coconut curry chicken, the list goes on. The appetizers come with amazing yogurt sauce and chimichurri. It won't break the bank and the staff is great. Bonus points is Fahime (the owner) is there, he's a national treasure.

Food was very delicious. Please visit these folks if you like Indian cuisine. Service was OK, no music in the background made it very quiet, but the food made up for all of it.

The restaurant is located near downtown area, so parking around it could be tricky. However, we found a street parking luckily. The ambiance of the restaurant can definitely use an upgrade. Pretty old-aged set up and the restroom on the face of the dining table doesn’t help honestly. The service was pretty slow. However, we went there pretty late, almost towards the closing time and it was still somewhat busy. So can’t really complain about that. But the food was not up to the hype that the google review had led us to believe. The butter chicken platter was pretty simple. The chicken wasn’t much flavorful rather bland. But the SLU special was good for the money. Kabuli pulav was flavorful, also the SLU chicken (that tasted more like butter chicken than the butter chicken platter itself!). Food price and portion was reasonable.

I travel to St. Louis every month for work, and Sameem Afghan Restaurant has become an absolute staple for me. Every visit reminds me why I keep coming back. Service is warm and welcoming, and the atmosphere is cozy without trying too hard.
The food is incredibly consistent — rich, flavorful, and clearly made with care. You know exactly what you're getting each time, and that reliability is rare and appreciated. Their lamb dishes are tender and perfectly spiced, and the kabobs are always cooked just right. The rice? Fragrant and addictive.
It’s my go-to spot in STL, and I highly recommend it to anyone visiting the area.

Restaurantji Recommends
The food here is SO GOOD. We came as a large group, and ordered a bunch of things to share. Every single dish was just amazing. Everything came warm, the waitress was super helpful. This place has a modest decor and interior, don't let that fool you, the food is supreme.

Delcious. We loved the food. The Mediterranean sampler platter was so fresh and perfect flavors and textures. We wish we had gotten it for 4, so we had leftovers for the 2 of us. Afgani buryiani, mango lassi and chai tea were also delcious. Felt like a family run place with authentic food. The food came out really fast. I would highly recommend eating here. I do wish the inside had more Afgani decor or music playing, but was a really nice quiet spot.

The food was amazing, the atmosphere quaint and comfortable, and the family who operates was kind and welcoming. I will definitely be back!
The food and service is the star here. We were a group of ten everything was great. I really enjoyed the Sambosa and Pakowra, Lamb Beriani and Veggie Pasta. I do wish they did not use plastic cups but I'll forgive it when he food is so good.
