The guy behind the grill is always incredibly rude. I've been served moldy burger buns and several times there have been long black hairs in my food. The prices are ridiculous for what you're getting. It's obvious that this place banks on the fact that there are few other options near by and is completely content to serve sub-par food prepared poorly.

Shell Cafe lately has been sooo good! They're omelettes for breakfast are made to order and perfect every time--they even have egg whites they can make an omelette with. The salad bar at lunch time always has plenty of topping options. The meal special of the day tends to be overpriced so I stay away from that but sometimes their specials are super interesting!

If you want to spend $15 on a sub-par burger and fries, look no further.

The Shell Cafe is bad. It’s really nothing personal - I get there’s a market for on-campus food for researchers, the people who work here are friendly overall, and the cafe interior is actually quite nice. However, the food is uniformly overpriced and underwhelming. All of the food is very salty but also poorly seasoned and the portions are small. Occasionally the daily special is okay, but: you can get similar (but better) daily specials for $2-3 less by going to the main hospital cafeteria. For example, the pizza and soup du jour at the cafeteria are worlds better in terms of taste, quality and portion size!Simply put, this place exploits the fact that researchers don’t venture out of their building for lunch. There’s really no excuse for going here. If you would like to have better food options near the research buildings in WUSTL, then ‘vote with your wallet’ and STOP going to the Shell!

I really wish that WASHU would replace this cafe with another company. The food is absolutely not good and very much over priced. The combinations they serve are odd and they never have condiments or much of anything that goes with the food you buy. I don't know if they are trying to go the "healthy" route but this isn't working out. If you serve burgers then make it a combo and serve fries with it. If you serve a wrap for nearly $8, serve chips with it or fruit! Like this place is horrible! Make the menu better and hire people that know how to cook. I eat here from time to time because rarely do I carry my credit cards and using my badge is convenient and this is one of the few places that takes WASHU badges, but every time I eat here I regret it very much. Please replace this cafe with something better!

The food is pretty hit or miss. The menu rotates slightly. The most that has changed are the ever increasing prices, decreasing food quality, and decreasing sizes of the protein portions. This place is run by Bon Appetit Catering Service. I think it's time for a new one, because the food has become just this side of edible. Last week I had the shrimp pizza (I know, I know) and I had food poisoning. So I guess give them a whirl if you're feeling dangerous and have money to blow.
