we made a reservation for 3 persons... the food was great... prices are the new norm: $14-17... the kitchen service was good, but the waiter service was rough... AND they politely kicked us out after 1 hour... NOT coming back

Service was excellent, gentleman at the bar was very knowledgeable and friendly. food came super fast, we both got their signature breakfast sandwich wich was delish however for $13 i was shocked it was on regular bread. looked very basic for the price. i also felt like their drinks came in the smallest size cups for adults you had to get two maybe even 3 to make it through your meal and the refills arent free. overall, it was a good experience glad we went.

Manager treated us so poorly and made us feel completely unwelcome. She yelled at a staff member in front of us which was super unprofessional and not cool. Won’t be going back.

Was initially told the wait was 40 minutes, waited for a hour and 35 minutes and watched people that arrived later get seated before us and then was lied to about whether or not we were going to be seated.

Amazing service and the food tasted okay however me and my boyfriend got really bad food poisoning afterwards and it was the only thing we had eaten out of the ordinary yesterday.

Editing to add: she must be begging for positive reviews from customers to take attention away from this one. And that does not take away from my experience.
I truly had no intentions of leaving a review until I came and read the reviews which definitely confirmed what I experienced today.
I actually had been curious about this cute little corner Cafe for a while considering it is around the corner for my daughter's school and they are always really busy. I was hoping to give them a try one day, however my experience as an Uber driver delivering for them was unbelievably embarrassing.
When I walked in, the lady with short curly blonde hair that everyone is referring to as potentially being racist, was in the middle of a conversation with customers and did not acknowledge me for quite some time. So I took it up on myself to move towards the bar area to bother an employee who wasn't preoccupied. I was told that it was a large order and would be quite a while. No problem. I stepped back and waited. The space is very tiny, so to avoid being in the way I decided to have a seat at the bar, on the opposite side in the corner out of the way. I went to ask for a cup of water and review the menu however I was unable to.
That is when the lady with short curly hair who later identified herself as the manager(I was told she's the owner unfortunately) told me that she had a reservation coming in for the bar area and I would need to move. I asked her were they here now? She stated no but because I am waiting for food I should go wait in my car and they will bring it out to me once the order is ready. I said okay and still asik for my cup of water to go.
While I was waiting for the water, I noticed them in the back packing up the order so I headed out to my car. Waited a few minutes and decided to see if they needed some help. As I was walking back in that lady came rushing out to let me know that she just sent the order with one of her employees instead because I didn't do like she asked me to do and leave her bar area. When I attempted to have a conversation with her and asked her for the manager's information she told me she was the manager and she wasn't doing this today. I told her that was unfortunate and unbelievable, could she please have the owner reach out to me? She said she would take down my information and pass it along to the owner. At that point I didn't trust her, so I asked one of the other employees if they knew how I could contact the owner and that is when they told me that unfortunately she is the owner.
Not sure what her ego trip was about this morning, but that is one miserable old woman. These reviews regarding how she treats people are definitely true. I wish her much success but her attitude will not last in this community much longer. Welcome to 2024: pull your head out of your butt ma'am and get it together!!!!

Owner is rude to her staff. They all seem so uncomfortable around her.

I’ve never publicly reviewed a restaurant before but I felt because of its reputation, a review of Songbird was a must. I’ve been a customer multiple times with multiple people and the food/drinks are always spectacular. We always have a mostly pleasant experience with one very large hangup. The staff will rush you out. The first time, I assumed we had stayed too long by a bit but nothing egregious as dining time is usually 90 minutes for a party of two and we were there for maybe 30 mins over. We were promptly told to leave as there was another reservation waiting. No problem, I understand the need to flip tables on a busy day. However, the second time, we had barely hit the 45 minute mark when we were getting hints from staff to wrap it up. It was very obviously rushed and my guest and I definitely felt put off by the vibe. I understand the restaurant is very small and no one in the restaurant business likes guests that overstay their welcome, but making a guest feel like a burden after 45 minutes seems like bad business. Aside from that, I do love the food, drinks, and atmosphere. I would absolutely go again, but will expect to be hounded to leave as soon as I finish my last bite of food.

The owner makes the staff use a port-a-potty around back. I’ve heard nothing but terrible things about the management at songbird and when I went I found all of it to be true. I feel sad for anyone who works for this owner.

Food was good, if pricy, but nothing special. Staff was a bit snooty. Cafe doesn’t let you wait inside, so you leave your phone number. Manager texted me, which I didn’t hear because it was noisy among all the people waiting. So, she gave my table away. I asked her why she didn’t instead step outside to tell me, and she said she didn’t know I was there. (Where else would I be?) Not wanting to act out the Chinese Restaurant episode from Seinfeld, we waited another 30 minutes. The wait staff was surly when asked to bring obvious things like a spoon or salt & pepper and rushed us from our table. Over all, I got the impression the staff expects us to be grateful we’re customers.

I will respond to owner’s comment. Owner does not challenge the interchange regarding giving the table away. After that interchange, I felt the need to placate the manager out of fear she would refuse to seat us. It seemed odd to me that a spoon and salt & pepper would not be on a breakfast setting as a matter of course. Songbird has a pleasant atmosphere and is obviously popular. I found the food as stated above. I have recounted my experience and given what I think is a fair and balanced review. I’m not a one-star Karen. People should read multiple reviews and form their own opinions. It would help, however, if Songbird’s reservation system could be set to call rather than just text. And perhaps it’s not too much to ask for the greeter to pop her head outside if someone doesn’t respond right away.

Songbird is our favorite breakfast/brunch spot in STL. My girlfriend and I have been going every Sunday for nearly a year now and it never gets old. The service, food, and of course coffee are all incredible. Chris in the team are so friendly and accommodating to all guests and leave a lasting impression on everyone who walks through the door. The Combo sandwich is the best breakfast sandwich in the area and everything on the menu is delicious and reasonably priced. If you are looking for a great breakfast spot, check them out, but try and get there early or make a reservation as I am not the only one who holds them in this high of a regard. Keep up the great work and looking forward to many more visits to come.

Today might have been an off day. Instead of being escorted to our seats, we were directed to our seats under the painting. We were received by our waitress quickly and the drink order taken. We ordered coffee, etc. It took at least 30 minutes. The table ordered food and received the pastries before our drinks. The drinks arrived warm like they had been sitting for a while. I sent mine back with the person who brought the drinks. Our waitress came to check on us. I told her the situation. I did receive another latte. It was slightly warmer. Skipping ahead.... later after I finished the latte. The waitress returned with the original coffee splattered latte cup. I guess it had been sitting in a microwave. I could tell it was the 1st coffee bc the cup. We were still waiting on our food it took a while after finishing our drinks.
The food was a mixed experience. Ordered the farm sampler and cheddar grits. You have to love aged cheddar. I'm just not a fan. I didn't enjoy the grits. The sour dough bread was good, and eggs were fresh. I added cheese to the eggs. I was glad i could pick it off. The breakfast comes with juice. I didn't receive the drink with my meal. Before paying, I let them know I never received the juice.
I paid and left the restaurant only to realize it never came. I went back to get the juice.
It's hard to pinpoint, but the experience was just off. It was busy but appeared to slow down while we were waiting. I also expressed I didn't like the grits, and you could see I barely touched them. The waitress apologized and said sometimes, it's just like that.. "Not enjoying the food." I didn't request a refund, which should have been offered. There were a few other things we, as guests, didn't like, but I don't feel like going into detail.

Great little cafe! It has a very homey, welcoming aesthetic. The staff are nice and attentive and the food was great. We had the combo breakfast sandwich and the Farm toast..it was too good to waste time taking a photo so you'll have to take my word for it. :)
