It's no secret that private equity has destroyed Steak & Shake - each store is destined to fail, but only the individual franchisee will suffer. Meanwhile, the staff is so minimal, you have to take them away from their jobs so they can explain that the code for your self-serve soft drink is no longer valid because you dispensed too much cola. You must scan a QR on your receipt to unlock the machine so you can serve yourself a soda. Once. Flat soda? Too bad. Buy another one, because the machine wont dispense one. 1 soft drink, 3 chicken tenders, 2 shakes, a medium fry and a medium cheese fry: $30.30 It's almost funny how terrible this chain has become.

The best steak and shake is off of Hampton Ave in st Louis.. the food was absolutely delicious.. so good infact I had to let the workers know and complement them on how good it was on 2 different occasions.. this one is also very good but I also only had a shake so

The food was great we were 2 separate we order at the same time we got ours at a good time our friends waited a while to get there food the cook did an awesome job.. I didn't quite like the drink station at first but after I figured how to get my drink it was pretty neat..so when you pay for you food on the kiosk it gives you a receipt and bar codes to scan at the scanner next to fountain area once you scan you can get your drink.. don't loose your bar code incase you want a refill....very clean and great customer service ?

The soda counter, bench seat walls and bathroom was very dirty. Couldn't turn off the water at soda counter because it was gummy.

The food was good here, extremely greasy though. They could use less butter on the buns! They did forget to put my toppings that I ordered on my Steak burger. I had to go back for them. One guy was waiting here for a half an hour, three people went in front of him and he still didn’t get his food. And then they finally got it from in the back, in a to-go bag. Poor guy. He made them remake it fresh. As he deserved. Seems a little in personable when you have to order from a kiosk and only see the people that work here when they bring your food up to the counter. But the place was clean and nice.

Food was good, great even. But the new Steak 'n Shake dining model is disappointing. No wait staff, you order at an electronic kiosk and wait for them to call your name. If you need anything you have to wait to see someone walking in the back and try to get their attention. (Good luck!) No peppers, season salt, or mustard on the tables - just little packets of salt/pepper and ketchup on the counter now. The whole original feel of the restaurant is gone, the pictures of car hops and waitresses on the walls remind you of how a diner should be. If you're craving Steak 'n Shake, just go to the drive through.

While this location is better, a little faster, and cleaner than the location at Watson rd. I do have a problem with Steak n Shake getting cheap on their fountain soda refills. How much can you possibly save by limiting your customers to 1 refill. And that stupid scanner you now have to use just to get the fountain soda machine to work is ridiculous. I paused for abou 10 second to let this fizz settle down and the damn thing turned off and then I had to scan my receipt again to get it back on and then it wouldn't work again when I actually wanted a refill, what a piece of crap and a VERY STUPID IDEA. You are going to lose business by passing off your customers because you want to save a couple of pennies. I will not be using the Steak n Shake's that have this technology anymore.
