I only had their ice cream, but I enjoyed both the Chocolate Brownie Cake in a Cup & the S’mores Sundae. With that being said, I don’t think either dessert differentiated itself from other ice cream shops around STL which was mildly disappointing given the spectacular reviews Fountain on Locust has.

4/5 stars because I didn’t see any fountains or locusts in the restaurant.

3.5 STARS. Good Midtown option, especially for lunch. They were among the first to help revive that stretch of Locust, which remains commendable.

Super long wait time. Was not greeted at the door and when I was waiting for a server it took 10 minutes to even be acknowledged.

Way overhyped. Menu manages to be both limited and complicated. Annoying staff.

Overall, food was great. Service was amazing (I tipped $50.00 cash). Atmosphere good but we were pretty crammed in the corner.

We were entertaining out of town family, and I paid the bill before my guests had a chance to. I’m so glad I did because I would’ve been massively embarrassed at this “Large Party 20%” charge we got hit with. 6 adults which cost us an add’l $43.70.

What did we get for this additional charge? More food? No. Better service? No. Better seating? No. Just the pleasure of spending our hard earned money on what this restaurant was offering? Sorry. You must do better for your city.

We could have gone anywhere for lunch. 😔

Great place but I’ll give it 5 stars when they invest in an espresso machine.

General Thoughts - Interesting place and fun atmosphere. Maybe my thoughts on the food/service were skewed by my thinking that it was basically just an ice cream bar with a few food options... Not a whole restaurant. That said, they claim to be rated the "best" at damn near everything, but their ice cream and service were only "best" at being mediocre... So, I don't feel bad only rating it a 3. Maybe the high ratings and praise (?) are generally meant for the food and ice cream martinis? Either way, not a place I'd reccomend... Specifics below. 👇

Food - My wife and I popped over for some dessert. We split a $10 "build your own sundae" bowl. It was 2 scoops + 2 toppings + whipped cream. It was a good portion, especially for 2 people who weren't super hungry and just wanted a quick snack. I'm accustomed to the price being a little cheaper for the same portion sizes, but it definitely wasn't bad! The ice cream, though? Bland. The Butter Pecan mostly tasted like vanilla aside from 1 bite where I got a little blast of flavor at the end. I think the Espresso Bean, while good, was just chocolate ice cream loaded with chocolate-covered espresso beans. I didn't get any bites without the beans,.. But my wife did, and that is what she thought. The tastiest part was the toasted marshmallow cream, but there was only like 2 tiny globs of it. The hot fudge was also good (is it ever bad?), but there wasn't much hot fudge to be found in the sundae either. Overall... It was an extra mediocre sundae that wasn't worth the price. You can find better ice cream/sundaes basically anywhere in the country for cheaper/with bigger portions.

Service - It was decently busy when we first arrived, but they had a lot of people working... And a lot of workers were just standing around doing nothing. That said, our server was super kind and appeared to be the only one staying busy for most of the time we were there. After we finished our ice cream, though, there were only a few customers left in the restaurant... But it still took 10 minutes just to get our check!

TL;DR - Fun atmosphere, but slow (lazy?) service with extra mediocre and expensive ice cream! In one word? Overhyped!

If you're looking for normal food, go somewhere else. I'm not a fancy food person and was not excited when I saw the menu. What I ordered tasted fine, but I wouldn't have ordered it if there was something I recognized on the menu like a hamburger.

Was a sauna today, walked in and glasses fogged up. Was glad it was too go.

Outstanding menu. Definitely try the pickle soup. Some servers are SO AMAZING. Some clearly hate food service and are outwardly rude to paying customers. Been here four times. Waitstaff has been 50/50. Food, drinks, and ice cream are always tops.

This spot is a must-visit if you’re in St. Louis. The food, drinks, and atmosphere were all top-notch. However, we did encounter a hiccup with seating.

We had a group of eight and added ourselves to the waitlist 45 minutes before arriving. Upon arrival, we were informed it would be an additional 35-minute wait. After waiting, our table still wasn’t ready, and we had to split into two tables of four. This was frustrating, especially after planning ahead and still not being able to sit together.

Pros: Despite the seating issue, the service was excellent. Our waitress was kind and attentive. The bread was baked to perfection, and the dessert was delicious. The drinks were great. I highly recommend the Persephone if you enjoy lime-based cocktails. The Espresso Martini with ice cream was good too. They even have a cocktail ice cream club that you HAVE to try that my friend got.

While the seating situation was less than ideal, the quality of the food, drinks, and service made up for it. I would highly recommend this place to anyone visiting St. Louis. Just be prepared for potential wait times if you’re in a large group.

The food was very good but a bit pricey. The royal grille, prosperity panini, soup of the day were delicious! The ice cream is good, but not the most impressive we've had. Overall, would recommend!!

Kid-friendliness: Have a kids menu.

The Fountain on Locust is one of my favorite spots in St Louis. I love taking visitors there for coffee martinis and dill pickle soup.
