Before you walk into this old school Italian Bakery (located on the hill off Marconi) bakery take a second to make sure your shoes are tied on tight, you might even want to double knot them because the cream horns and the ricotta puffs will knock your socks clean off.

They charge by weight and by the cost vs the amount you receive it is quite affordable. People are friendly, helpful, (they do sell out so get there early) it's old school done right.

They have frozen pizza shells, noodles, raviolis, sauce / gravy, canolis, and other items to grab so you can actually get stuff for your dinner here too.

Pro Tip: Buy extra they are fresh so they are good the next morning as well.

I am originally from St. Louis and I have lived out of town for the past 26 yrs.
I usually visit St. Louis at least once a year and I ALWAYS make it a point to visit Vitale’s Bakery.
I think the store is enormous and the atmosphere is warm and welcoming!
They make quite a lot of cookies and breads! It is difficult to choose what to get so I get a little bit of everything!
The ladies who work there are patient and very friendly! This definitely adds to the experience!
It seems like every time I stop by, I strike up conversations with other customers, who are very friendly as well!
I would DEFINITELY recommend making a trip to Vitale’s Bakery and enjoy the wonderful experience I know you will have!

Parking: Free street parking is available. The streets on the Hill are busy, but a trip to Vitale’s Bakery definitely makes it worthwhile!

Vitale's Bakery in The Hill district - It has been my history that whenever in a new city, find the cookies and the chocolate. I'm attending a conference and first visit to St Louis. I have a counterpart with the same goal: cookies and chocolate. We easily corrupted two more peers to seek the goods. I discovered Vitale's walking the Hill. I'm an ant, I scout, then bring back the other ants. Vitale's did not dissapoint. First, the staff are great and engaging, and they were patient, to the point they readily viewed my photos of my bread and cookies I make. Lots of great choices on the cookie front (bread, pastas, cheese and more). The cookies are good and we left with several pounds. I recommend a visit.

I like this bakery. I still go there. I wish their employees wear disposable gloves at all times. Not all the time, but quite often, employees put bread on their bare hands, which I really hate to see.

We ordered cookies by the pound for our April 2024 wedding! They let us select our favorite cookies for the platters and they looked stunning on our wedding dessert table! We also added some of their gooey butter cookies!

The meatballs are soooo yummy! The staff member told me to boil them for 15 minutes (from frozen) and then put them in the sauce. They were so much bigger and better via following this tip. Thanks!!

Disappointed with the cookies in this bakery - according to my friend who's 3rd generation Italian and grew up on home made Italian food, these cookies are made with cheap ingredients. Didn't use to be like this in Italian bakeries but seems they're trying to cut corners for more profit. The cookies look great but they're just not good quality - which by itself isn't a very Italian thing because true Italian food in Italy is top notch since an Italian won't have anything but the best. So to call them Italian cookies isn't really fair. Please Vitale's, you can do better!

Tastes great but (understandably) expensive! A pound of cookies - a box of them was $18. A canolli is almost $4.
