The Women’s Exchange Café in Clayton offers a lovely, welcoming vibe that makes it a great place to catch up with friends or enjoy a casual lunch. The food is consistently good, especially the salads, which are always fresh. That said, the drinks leave something to be desired. They just don’t quite match the quality of the food. Parking can also be a bit tricky. While there is a free lot, it’s shared with several other storefronts, so finding a spot during peak hours can be a challenge.
Women’s Exchange Salad is my go to on the menu. Always delicious. Tuna salad in the to go case is wonderful.
The Woman’s Exchange of St. Louis was established in 1883 as a nonprofit organization founded by women to support women facing financial hardships. Women can sell handmade goods and heirloom garments for financial gain.
But wait there is more. The Exchange operates the cutest tearoom. The menu features a variety of salads, sandwiches, wraps, and specialty plates. Notable items include the Vegetable Sandwich but I made in a wrap, made with spinach, cucumber, avocado, red onion, tomato, and dill Havarti cheese.
The organization’s mission extends to empowering women through various programs, including an Immigrant Training Program and supporting women’s financial independence.
Join the mission and stop in for lunch.
Seated and waited on right away
I've noticed the rugs are really dirty and dust is accumulated
I love supporting the artisans who create exquisite handmade children's clothing at The Women's Exchange. My favorite baby shower gift was a classic St. Louis cherry suit that celebrities from the Kennedys to Andy Cohen dress their children in "the cherry dress (or suit for the boys)". When my boys were little, I'd buy smocked and applique jon jons and longalls here and it is my "go to" store for St. Louis Cardinal or cherry dresses for baby or one year old birthday gifts. Recently, I purchased a beautiful tablecloth handmade by a New American/refugee woman as a holiday present for my mother in law. Besides the artisans, they stock resort and boutique brands for women and have great gifts and stocking or basket stuffers. My favorite memories are having a girls' lunch here with my mom and aunts and grandmother. I love their signature salad and more modern menu updates. It's a great nonprofit. I wish they had not eliminated their weekend dining hours. Right now, it is for special events/hosted events. Even so, I still shop here despite living across the country.
I ordered the "Woman's Exchange Salad" and cup of homemade soup as a quick and light lunch.
The salad was all fresh, no mushy tomatoes or wet, oily lettuce. The Chicken and hard boiled egg finish was a nice touch, and made for a filling and fresh meal all on its own.
The soup was equally as good, but not as hearty. It was a vegetable soup, with a tomato soup base that had corn, carrots, peas and a couple of other ingredients. It was very good, but best as a side in my opinion.
Well done, would definitely order again.
What a great place to meet for a meal! Loved the atmosphere and the chance to shop as well
Wonderful retail environment with a quaint Cafe and fabulous sweets to go.

I frequently get their club sandwich and it is always delicious! I love the side of pickles that they give as well! The staff is very welcoming when I walk in, and they always acknowledge when you’re leaving and wish you a good day.

I enjoyed my food, basic but good. The brownies had a huge chuck of chocolate on top for some odd reason but the food was tasty. Very great server. I was confused as to why there was a man working at the women’s exchange but great experience over all.

There’s always a friendly greeting when I come through the door. And ordering my meals is a breeze.I recommend the Women’s Exchange Salad and special dressing w/toasted English muffins. There’s plenty of sweet treats to choose from. My faves are either the Carrot Cake ? or coconut ? cream cake. The Brownies are also tasty. ?

Ordered my usual women's exchange salad at the take-out counter, but asked for it to be lightly tossed. Was told there was an additional charge which I agreed to, until my bill rang up to $20. The fee was $4. For a salad that's 70% iceberg lettuce, the cheapest lettuce out there @ a cost of 15 bucks for the salad, the toss should be free. Just a thought!
