Great south side spot in the Bevo neighborhood! Recently remodeled, with an expanded menu including burgers, wings, and pizzas. They still have all the great Mediterranean dishes with one of the best doner gyros in the city. Plus the have great baked bread, and some Eastern European sundries.

Very kind and helpful staff! The cevapi and sarma are both delicious as well as the portions are generous. Being a bakery, there are fantastic burek variations as well as standard breads. Lovely establishment and a hidden gem.

If you know, you know. Zlatno Zito is one of those hidden gems that’s part bakery, part deli, part European market—and 100% worth a visit.
I came for the gyro sandwich and stayed for everything else. Their hot case is stocked with giant, golden, flaky pies—cheese, spinach, meat—and they’re absolutely the real deal. I grabbed a gyro sandwich with house-made bread, piled high with tender meat, tzatziki, and fresh veggies. The fries were crispy perfection, and the little dessert bites (hello, chocolate-coconut truffles) were the perfect finish.
The grocery shelves are filled with Balkan and Mediterranean goods—think pickled veggies, jams, wafer cookies, pudding mixes, and lots of items you won’t find in a big-box store. The fresh bread wall? Swoon. So many shapes and styles, all baked fresh.
Pro tip: The deli menu is taped over with handwritten prices, which just adds to the charm—like you stumbled into a neighborhood spot that’s been thriving on word of mouth. Grab a cart. You’ll leave with more than you planned (and zero regrets).
🛒 Don’t skip:
• The gyro
• Fresh bread
• Chocolate coconut truffles
• Imported pantry staples

Delicious! This was my first experience with Bosnian/Bosnian-adjacent cuisine, and Zlatno Zito did not disappoint. The bread that the cevapi were served on (lepinja, I think?) was decadent, and the cevapi didn't disappoint either. For around twelve bucks, I was given a HUGE serving and could hardly finish it despite how good it was. Nowdays you can hardly get a fast food meal for that price, so as far as I'm concerned, the fact that Zlatno Zito provides individually prepared meals for these prices is a heck of a bargain.
Zlatno Zito was absolutely worth the visit! The ladies/grannies running the place and working the grill were all friendly and regularly checked in, and the dining area was clean, quaint, and well air conditioned.
What a bargain.
Incredible little Bosnian bakery and deli. I got the cevapi to go but it was wholesome and delicious. Very satisfied.
always delicious burek, thank you
Very friendly woman working when I visited who was happy to answer any and all questions that I had about the staple dishes on the menu. Wonderful baklava.
The fact that they were sold out of most everything by the time I arrived is a testament to the quality for which Zlatno is famous
