Strolling by at 5pm there was an empty bar; no reservation needed and attentive service from the bartender. Decent selection of music at a reasonable volume. Just right for a solo dinner with a book.

The drinks were well concocted, fried sprouts, crispy chicken sandwich and fries were all quite tasty with the former stealing the show.

Was in for a five-star experience until a couple came in with their three (<12 years old) children and decided they should all sit at the bar while waiting for a table. The youngest repeated wanting "the blue one" over and over while the oldest spilled a full soda. Sure, it's an establishment for all but minors should be turned away from the bar seating.

A favorite of ours in Webster Groves and a wonderful place to gather with family and friends. Whether you want to stop and have a meal outside at a patio table, inside their beautiful dining room or sit at the bar for a quick drink and appetizer - The Block has it all. Their menu delicious and their chef always has amazing daily specials. This is one of those places during covid we ordered for pickup on a regular basis because we couldn't go without and the place i'll stop to get a contain of bacon jam (yes bacon jam) to ensure everyone is happy to see me when I arrive at a friends house.

We searched for a steakhouse in S5 Louis and found the block. With a butcher on site, it is the kind of place we wanted. Come to find out, there is not an actual selection of steaks. The "ribeye" that I got was thin and tough. I do not know what they used to season the steak, but it seems like a vegan did it. The other dishes that our members got were like an eclectic attempt at fancy food but were basically a KFC bowl of things, but the flavors did not go together. A well cooked, good quality steak should stand alone. It should not need to be covered in BBQ sauce. The 5 of us spent $250 for the experience with the tip.

Food was mixed. Steak (ribeye) was massively under-seasoned, lacking salt, pepper, and any option for flavored crust. Had some nice char without overcooking -- cooked to spec (medium rare). Steak sauce is served with, potentially on the steak by default (I opted for on the side) -- be forwarned. For the price, there's better options available locally, which is a shame. Meat was also not graded (or not disclosed) and didn't taste aged.

Beer cheese and pretzel was tasty.

Risotto (off menu item) was ok, but felt like too many flavors competing rather than harmonizing well.

Service was good when we had the servers attention, but they disappeared for long periods of time. Given that they weren't very busy as a restaurant, I'm assuming side jobs, but service suffered pretty badly for it. We also had a manager or possibly chef help out at our table occasionally. We still had to wait ~15 minutes for our check.

Our trip to The Block was a bit of a mixed bag. My partner and I went out for a date night. And overall the experience was positive, but there were definitely a few detractors from the experience.

It was clear the manager was a bit flustered or upset. We arrived and checked in and the hostess was going to secure our table, but the manager seemed to want her to take us right away. So we stood there while we watched her wipe off our table.

Then our server, who may have been new, was somewhat incompetent. He rattled off the specials and we couldn’t hold it all in our heads because there were so many. Thankfully the specials were on the website.

Our server brought us the wrong drinks. And then we had to wait awhile for the correction. Then we were generally rushed through our experience. We were still enjoying our appetizers when the entrees came. And then three people asked us about clearing our appetizer plates prematurely.

The manager brought out a couple of our dishes and seemed annoyed we didn’t have utensils. And then we had to wait awhile for refills on water and such.

The food was good! Though my partner found his special risotto overwhelmed by smoke flavor. And the Brussels sprouts we got as an appetizer suffered from a lack of salt.

Truthfully, because there are so many good restaurants in St. Louis, I doubt we would come back.

The Block was delightful! My partner and I were food hopping in Webster the other evening and decided to stop in for a bite and a drink. We sat at the bar - tended by the lovely Jill. For our meal there we each had a glass of wine and, by Jill’s recommendation, shared the off-the-menu bolognese gnocchi. Y’all!! It was absolutely delicious! Even as a shareable it honestly could have been a whole meal. Definitely go and get it before it’s gone.

Service was great and the ambiance was good.

Went to the block for the first time last night to celebrate my birthday. Ordered the Mac & cheese with bacon as my entree. It was way too salty to eat more than a little at a time, and ended up boxing most of it to take home in hopes I can get it to taste less salty. Super upset about my waitress and her lack of etiquette for alcohol selection when putting in drink orders. I ordered a mule with regular bourbon, nothing special. They have yellow label four roses there, but instead my waitress put in for angels envy to make my drink, making it a $20 Kentucky mule. Absolutely awful service for this, taking advantage of customers.

Nice atmosphere and great service. However, regarding food, the sirloin steak was served in a plate of sauce and was fairly tough to cut and chew. Most steaks don’t come in sauce because the steak itself is the main attraction. The flavors were good, just a somewhat tough sirloin. Also ordered the beef rib. Tender and juicy, also served in a brown sauce/gravy reduction that was quite strong after a bite or two. Like strong beef bouillon base. Drinks were fantastic. Decent overall.

Hearty servings for all diners. The menu is heavy on meat choices, and also offers fish and vegetarian options. The ricotta gnocchi with braised spare ribs was flavor packed and freshly made in-house. We’ll be back!

The atmosphere is really nice for a casual lunch or date with your partner of choice. The service is OK too. Very attentive wait staff. The food came out and looked appetizing. However, in the end it really missed the mark. My friend ordered the pork rage, and it looked like a babies diaper in a bowl (absolutely gross). According to the diner the taste was even less appealing than it looked. The salmon was good, but they added cheese to my dish when there was not supposed to be any there. For a lactose intolerant person this was unacceptable. I never would have gotten the meal with cheese. What's upsetting is that I asked as we ordered and was assured there was no dairy products in the meal. The steak was cooked perfectly; however, drowning it in the Heinz 57 sauce was overkill and ruined the flavor of the steak. Our other friend ordered the chicken and despite the ranch and cheese atop of it. The chicken breast was extremely dry. I probably wouldn't go here for food again. The bartender did make some amazing drinks. That would most likely be the only reason to return.

A great restaurant with great food and great service.

Oliver, our bartender was attentive, kind and informative with the menu. They helped us pick the perfect food.

From top to bottom, charcuterie, macaroni and cheese w/ bacon, pork with dumplings and the Brussels sprouts were all amazing.

The block is a must stop in the area.
