One of the first restaurants we discovered after relocating to Mississippi from Chicago, and it quickly became one of our favorites. Whether it's a special occasion, a date night, or just a casual lunch or dinner, Sumo Japanese Steakhouse is always our go-to. This is also a great place we bring family and friends visiting us from out-of-town.

We love the hibachi, although the menu offers a wide variety of delicious options for everyone. Every meal has been cooked exactly the way we like it, with generous portions and very reasonable prices.

A special thank you to our waitress, Megan, who is always warm, professional, and welcoming. She remembers her customers and treats everyone like family. The hibachi chefs are entertaining, full of personality, and make every meal fun—especially the famous onion choo-choo! Understands and accommodates special requests. I'm allergic to ginger, so they take that into consideration when I mention it. Steak rare, medium, or well ... your choice and done perfectly. Extra veggies, no problem. No veggies, no problem ... extra rice! YumYum sauce or teriyaki ... great options. Multiple choices of soups. Sushi, for those that enjoy that. And, a great drink selection.

Sometimes there may be a slight wait as the hibachi tables fill up.

Their combination of great food, outstanding service, and a fun atmosphere keeps us coming back time and time again.

Highly recommended.

Every facet of our dining experience at Sumo for Father’s Day was exceptional and surpassed our expectations. We travel a lot and all over for sports (and we live in South Louisiana where the food is chef’s kiss always, so we’re pretty picky), and this was definitely a hidden gem! We ate dine-in style, but had hibachi offerings, several different sushi rolls- cooked and raw, and kids meals. All was delicious and well-prepared (steak was actually medium rare as requested, even though that’s usually tough to get at our usual spots)… down to the salad and onion soup! Our waitress was very attentive, food service was quick- all together a great choice for our large family of 10. Would recommend and will definitely be back on our next trip to the area.

We stopped at Sumo for a quick lunch and was very impressed with the quality and price of our experience. I got the sushi plate that arrived with both su sushi and sashimi. While you can’t choose a particular type, the plate was absolutely delicious, fresh, and beautifully presented. My husband got the bento box and was similarly impressed. The lunch prices were very reasonable- we both ate for under $30. It’s definitely on our return list.

I went after lunch around 2 or 3. The place was not busy so I sat at the bar. The food sucked. It was flavorless and how do you mess up shusi? The service was ok but I will never eat there again. The place was nice but that was not enough. Good luck

The server was very polite, but unfortunately we were never given napkins or chopsticks, even after our food arrived. In the end, I had to eat with a fork. It's Japanese restaurant!
The wait time for the food was quite long, especially considering there were not many customers at the time. The soup that came with the main dish was served first, so by the time the main course arrived, the soup had already gone cold.
On the positive side, the portions were generous and the food tasted good. Overall, the meal was enjoyable, but the service and timing could be improved.

The first time going there on was a disaster bad food bad chef and lack luster of performance, only shining gem was the waitress, talk to the manager and he asked if we would come back and try again, so we did .
The second time during a busy dinner was actually really good , the chef was incredibly good at engaging with the guests food had flavor and joy in it staff was on point and sushi done well , the drinks where light pour at a really good strength, not too much alcohol not too little , will be dropping by again .

Good local sushi considering there isn’t “high end” sushi places in this region of the U.S. I prefer more Asian types of sushi like sea urchin and different fish roe which just isn’t available in the area so I rate this sushi as some of, if not the best, sushi in the area.
