“I seldom post anymore, but Gary and I had such an awesome Date Night experience at a local restaurant last night that I wanted to share. Thursday night is our official date night (odd, I know, but we’re old and we usually end up eating during happy hour everywhere), and last night we decided to try Bushman Street Cafe downtown. This under the radar restaurant is a fine dining experience in every sense of the word. I was reminded favorably of Brennan’s in NOLA. The food was excellent, the service attentive and impeccable, and the ambiance was close to perfect. The only minor niggle I had was the fact that the music was a little loud for conversation between two old fogies, one of whom is quite deaf (even though he had his hearing aids on). I’m not letting that minor quibble affect my experience, though, as this seems to be universal among restaurants. I guess the marketing thought is people don’t want to talk to each other anyway? At any rate, I highly recommend Bushman Street Cafe. I feel like their marketing could use a boost, as I really hadn’t heard of it til Gary started researching a new restaurant in town. “We recently moved to the area from StLouis and have been craving the fine dining we had available in quantity. This place foots the bill in service, food, and atmosphere. They should pay their chef double or triple, whatever it takes to keep them. Everything we had from salad through dessert was perfect in seasoning, quantity, and presentation. I don’t know of any gumbo I’ve had better than theirs. Save room for the white chocolate bread pudding for dessert. Nothing like it anywhere in the world. The wait staff is first rate in friendliness and service. Ask for Rylee if you are there on a Fri/Sat/Sun evening. She will take care of you!“
