We arrived for a 9AM opening. A sign on the door said,”open @10”. We along with many others waited (across the street at the coffee shop-great experience).
At 10AM we entered the restaurant and were seated. We were met by our server who was obviously disturbed and indicated that it was “going to be real long day”, in the most unwelcoming manner possible.
We ordered. The plates came quickly. There was no doubt that the scrambled eggs, the home fries and the bacon all had been “pre cooked”. Eggs were cool and under cooked. Potatoes were frankly cold and bacon that was requested to be well done and crispy was cool and nearly raw.
There was no inquiry as to our satisfaction with our orders. We were then met with a very cold,” It looks like you’re ready for your check”. That was the understatement of the morning.
We understand that there may have been unforeseen issues with kitchen staff. However, the subsequent horrific “execution” and “personal service” resulted in an exponential level of dissatisfaction. This dynamic should be seen as the diametrically opposite of the desired experience within the service industry.
I officially blew the food budget tonight... but honestly, no regrets.
Holly and I had a rare night off together, and we spent it exactly where we always end up when we want something special — Elvie's.
It’s our favorite spot for a reason. Every dish feels intentional. Fresh, seasonal, layered. Like someone actually cares about how it tastes and how it makes you feel. That’s rare.
They surprised us tonight (maybe because it’s my birthday week?) with a fried plantain amuse bouche topped with country ham and a drizzle of honey. And then closed it all out with a candlelit orange sorbet with candied peel. Classy, thoughtful, and just plain kind.
The Snapper Thermidor was perfectly cooked and poured tableside. Delicate but full of flavor. The buttered spring onions it came with might’ve been the most underrated part of the night.
Holly’s steak was a knockout. Cooked exactly right. And I’m not saying I stole a lot of her duck fat fries... but I definitely didn’t stop at one.
Still, the surprise highlight might’ve been the Grilled Peach Salad. Burrata, candied pecans, fermented honey. It was bright and peppery and somehow tasted like late spring and early summer got together and made something magic.
And don’t get me started on the onion butter. I would write a love song about that butter. I’d vote for it. I’d build it a statue.
Elvie’s, thank you for making us feel seen, celebrated, and well-fed. You’re a Mississippi gem, and tonight was one of those small-but-big memories we’ll hang onto.

I love it here. Always a great place after work.
Excellent food, friendly and comfy atmosphere, great service! Highly recommend for delicious breakfast/brunch/lunch. We had breakfast and our selections were fresh, well-prepared, very tasty but not overly sweet or rich. Perfect.
parking can be inconvenient
Incredibly tasty
Best eggs ever. Bacon a lil hard. Cheese grits has a different taste then I'm used to but I ate the all. The jelly needs to be in jars being sold

We came on a weekday evening 15 mins before they closed.
For appetizer, we ordered half dozen gulf oysters ($21); they were the big variety, very juicy. The crackers were flavorful, with ample savory seasoning, crispy texture and peppery taste complimented the freshness of tender oyster.
For entree, we shared the striped bass en papillote. It was braised beautifully, extremely tender and delicious. We also shared Steak Frites, the cut was a flank steak topped with a quenelle of butter, and came with a side of duck fat fries. I don’t personally prefer flank steak but my man enjoyed it.
Didn’t get to order desserts before they closed down kitchen, otherwise we were dying to try honeysuckle dessert.

Cute cafe. Food was not good. Chicken biscuit - chicken was fried hard. Biscuit.. solid. Not fluffy like my grandmas. Bacon was burnt. My daughter said “feels rushed” My nephew eats everything!! He said .. nasty Auntie.
