I visited this restaurant on Saturday March 15. This is my first time EVER leaving a food review because I am honestly not hard to please. When I walked in, the two ladies behind the registers did NOT greet us or offer to sit us. We awkwardly stood there while one of the ladies played on her phone. I told the host “hey, we would like to dine in. It’s two of us.” She didn’t say anything. She just looked. Ok cool … we proceeded to wait for about 20 mins. NOBODY behind the registers got our name and # of ppl that were in our “party.” So , customers that came in after us , were seated before us. The waitress was about to sit a party of 3. (We only had 2 in our party) until I hopped in & politely told the waitress “we were here before them.” Had the host took names & etc … it would’ve been way more organized.
Lastly, when we FINALLY sat down, the waitress came to our table with a cross body purse on. Unprofessional? So we ignored that. Maybe she had items stolen out of her purse while she was working. The last straw .. the same waitress daughter comes out of the booth and the waitress walks around the restaurant holding her daughter’s hand.
We kindly got up and left. It was way too much going on in that restaurant. Mighty Crab across the street was 10/10 and that is where I will spend my money.

They need to hire wait staff. We waited for 10-15 at a table with no service. We eventually left.

Breaux Bridge in Jackson Mississippi has THE BEST Cajun food we've had on this side (the east side) of the Mississippi [River]. The crab boil came steaming hot in a bag, and the salads and sides of gumbo, rice and beans were filled with flavor and hit the spot just right! The oysters [not pictured] were amazing as well. No sooner had we said "bon appétit" that the pleasureful culinary experience began. The servings were large- we definitely got our money's worth and more. To top the quality off, the music wasn't even from a streaming service; they had a live DJ!

We had been craving some Cajun food and we're glad we took a chance at Breaux Bridge Jackson. KK was our server, and she was very attentive to our needs, friendly with a sense of humor, and she and all the staff made us feel welcome there, although we were over 2,000 miles from home.

We highly recommend Breaux Bridge to anyone in the area looking for Cajun food! This is definitely being added as a core memory for our brief time in Jackson, Mississippi!

p.s. We read the reviews, but realized a lot of the negative reviews had a tone of cultural ignorance and racism. We were determined to ignore the racist comments and see what it was like for ourselves since racism often blinds people's judgment, which includes a deflated/bad judgment of food and service.

I'm SO relieved we detected the racism of a few posted reviews (and subsequent bad judgment from the reviewers) and bias between the lines, and felt compelled to provide a real review that portrayed our real lived experience... on a Friday night!

This was my second visit to “Breaux Bridge”. The first was months ago and was abruptly terminated without my dining after waiting interminably to be seated by seemingly distracted, uninterested wait staff….despite a nearly empty restaurant.

This time the service was almost as bad. After being quickly seated in a virtually empty restaurant, I had to wait forever for a waiter to appear. He finally delivered a ridiculously overpriced drink to me…..$11 for a small, lukewarm glass of draft Blue Moon beer. While the restaurant’s interior was beautiful, it had all the hallmarks of a poorly managed, minority-operated establishment, complete with legions of non-employee, non-customer friends walking freely about the restaurant, including in and out of the kitchen. Apparently that commanded the attention of my server, as he was generally nowhere to be found. Eventually my order of a small cup of gumbo as an appetizer arrived hot, very tasty, and authentically creole. Unfortunately it was served in a plastic cup with a disposable plastic spoon and a handful of very stale saltine crackers. My need for some Louisiana hot sauce to put in my gumbo was largely ignored by my waiter who was busy conversing with his friends in the kitchen. There were absolutely no condiments on the table at all. Eventually my main order of boiled shrimp and boiled crawfish arrived piping hot in a large plastic bag half filled with spicy, delicious, garlicky-creole crab-boil. It was early September, months before crawfish season even began, so despite my waiter’s verbal assurance that the crawfish were going to be fresh, that was clearly going to be biologically impossible. Instead, it was obvious as I suspected, that the crawfish must have been frozen and stored from last year’s boils. Similarly, the headless shrimp were also from old frozen stocks. While the shrimp were quite tasty, both items were rubbery, difficult to peel, and small. The crawfish tasted awful. Fortunately, the accompanying potatoes and corn on the cob were actually quite delicious.

I couldn’t finish my entire meal so I asked for a large to-go container. I was told that the restaurant didn’t stock any. Instead it was suggested that I somehow pour everything remaining on my large serving tray back into the original plastic bag to take home with me. This was clearly going to be impossible for me to do, so I requested TWO small styrofoam containers, which my waiter kindly provided for me to fill by hand.

I was shocked when my bill arrived…..it was $50. With an overly generous 20% tip, my total bill came to $60, which included $22 of charges for two small glasses of draft beer. The latter ripoff was the final straw for me. This, combined with the poor wait service, the cheap plastic plates and silverware, the lack of condiments, the lousy crawfish and the many people meandering about distracting the wait staff, are all reasons why I gave Breaux Bridge a 2/5 rating. I am originally from New Orleans and have been to crawfish festivals in Breaux Bridge, La. on multiple occasions. How this restaurant has stayed in business this long with such inattention to its customers, poor wait service, over-priced drinks, meandering visitors, and out-of-season frozen seafood, is probably only because of the great taste of it’s gumbo and spicy crab-boil mix. I strongly doubt this will be enough in the long run to keep customers happy and coming back…..which I won’t be doing.
