Driving from Memphis to New Orleans needed a stop and Jackson is exactly halfway. Looked for somewhere downtown and lucked out with Steve’s. Great sandwiches and also had the Gumbo - outstanding! The team (and I’m so sorry I didn’t get their names) were wonderful. They thanked everyone who came in always said goodbye - my kind of people. I guess it’s that ‘Southern Hospitality’ one hears about! Even took some biscuits - sorry cookies 😊 - for the rest of the drive and they threw an extra in which was a nice touch.

Steve’s is an excellent sandwich shop and hot lunch spot in downtown Jackson.
The breads, desserts, and hot dishes- quiches, soups and hot sandwiches are all fresh and high quality.
The Choctaw, a smoked chicken sandwich with white BBQ sauce is the best sandwich in the metro!
The Chess Squares could end Wars if used properly!
Amazing, friendly service.
There’s not a bad item on this unique menu.
Smaller restaurant space and the restroom is in the attached Nextdoor building, downstairs.

Excellent small lunch shop located downtown Jackson. Shop has about ten table tops. Specials are written on the black board and the rest on QR menu available at counter. Choctaw sandwich was delicious and came with drink, pasta salad, and chips. Staff were very personable and polite. Baked goods available at front glass case

Stopped in for lunch today. This might be the happiest workplace I have ever walked into in my life. The staff was super friendly, not only with me, but with one another and happy to be there. This was at the end of lunch rush. The food was outstanding. Had the sausage gumbo and it was excellent. When I’m back in downtown Jackson, I will definitely be back.

OMG I have just had some of the best soup I've ever tasted. First time trying this place. Saw on their website that the daily soup was a Senegalese chicken peanut soup - immediately intriguing. I got a cup to try, but next time it'll be a bowl. Maybe two. It was that good. And the staff were super friendly! Can't wait to see what else this place has to offer!ETA: Went back today. Soup was just as delicious as the first time. Also tried the chicken salad - bang on. Amazing. Service super lovely again.
