Garbage. Scared of being robbed
First note that Letha’s has moved to Hwy 42 in Petal, Ms just outside of Hattiesburg. We are very picky about our barbecue as my husband is quite the grill master. However from time to time we do try others barbecue. My husband had been to the original restaurant years ago but I had never been so we decided to give it a try. We made up our own sample plate, small rib plate with cole slaw snd baked beans, a pulled pork sandwich and a sausage dog. First the ribs were very good as was the pulled pork and the sausage. The sauce is excellent. I don’t usually eat a lot of coleslaw and beans but gave this a try. Both were very good. The barbecue sauce is excellent! The staff which were two of Lethas grandchildren was extremely friendly. Highly recommend and I seldom am happy with barbecue.
It wasn’t as good as I would expect in Southern Mississippi. The barbecue sauce was delicious but overall everything was too sweet. The sweet tea was good..but it was also a little too sweet. The ribs were a little tough and we got end pieces of the brisket. Coleslaw has a hint of mustard. Overall the sweet tea was the best part. Also it’s not the original location it claims here on trip advisor, google Leatha’s for the correct location.
Address is wrong. They have moved or closed, don't know which. Prior visits have been worth the visit. &hhhhhhhhhhhhhh
Leatha's decor needed refreshed, customers mostly locals, both male & female. Menu Bar B Q, very sweet large servings.
Jim and I moved here this summer... we love bbq and have been trying them as we run across them... went out of our way to try this place... so bad! Didn’t have brisket... so we both had pulled pork sandwiches... I had baked beans, Jim had very bland potato salad. The pork would have been edible but it was drenched in sugar heavy bbq sauce.. which Ruined an ok sandwich! I like spicy with a hint of sweet bbq sauce. This tasted like puré brown sugar... apparently this is how they make the bbq beans too. Unfortunate! Beans were inedible! I was surprised they didn’t offer insert iced tea... nope, not an option... I had water as did Jim. We ate enough to where we weren’t starving anymore. Period. This is a pitiful excuse for a bbq restaurant in the south ! Terrible food. Not a great attitude from the staff either. Will not be back!
Our fifth 'cue stop in Mississippi. $29.92 bought a pair of lunch plates-- large portions of ribs with fried potatoes and coleslaw, and pork sausage with baked beans and potato salad. This is small town, deep South 'cue, and it is true to its roots. Both the ribs and the sausage came sauced. The sauce is a thin, tomato-based concoction, peppery with a hint of sweetness. It enhanced rather than overwhelming the flavor of the meat, which we enjoyed (especially the sausage). The baked beans were ... baked beans, but the fried potatoes, coleslaw and potato salad were all classics. Leatha's is well removed from the interstates, but we are glad that we came this way, and took the time to dine here. We hope you will too.
Out of business. It was good food. Very expensive poor location, dumpy building. Only visited 2 or 3 times because too expensive. Lived less than 2 miles away.
Hard to find now that they moved to Petal, MS. Be sure to check GPS as located in Petal, not Hattiesburg. Best beef ribs(removed from bone), pulled pork, and pork ribs. Some outdoor seating, family owned and very pleasant staff.
All I wanted was a pound of pork. This is during COVID so no patrons were inside and they were not busy outside. I had to pull up and wait for them to get it ready. The servers were friendly so that was a plus. Ok let's say they had to cut it up fresh. That is great. I got it home and it was extremely fatty. I was using the pork for nachos and i had to pull about 2-3 oz of fat out of it and I didn't even use the entire pound. And it was $15.99 for a pound. The taste was ok. I did not use the barbecue sauce. Maybe that is why I didn't find it wonderful. I don't know. I just know I probably won't be back.

Just to go for now, fyi, you irate at the window. Hubs n both got the smell beef ribs with potato salad n baked beans, he was supposed to have fried potatoes but it was fine. Food was excellent, but sure what the new location is like inside but will be smaller than the old location. Bbq tasted the same though. It was fall apart tender n full of flavor!
After reading other reviews of this place, as well as a personal recommendation to try it if were in the area, we decided to drive out of the way to do so, on our way back to Birmingham. We love good bbq, and it came highly recommended. With the pandemic, only drive thru service was available, but we were fine with just sitting in our car in the air conditioning, and enjoying our food. We both ordered a bbq pork sandwich and potato salad. The bbq was just average, with very little sauce. The sauce wasn’t even particularly flavorful. Neither of us cared for the potato salad, either. Overall, we were very much let down, after the good reviews we had read. We have no plans to return. The prices were also high for the quality of food you actually get there. Chain restaurants are supposed to be places which pretty much just satisfy a craving, but don’t particularly blow you away. These privately owned spots are supposed to be the crest of culinary excellence. Upon tasting this bbq, though, I would have jumped over the car to have a Jim ‘N Nick’s bbq sandwich instead.
Ribs, Chicken and Pork are all outstanding. What a great old school bbq establishment. Highly recommend.
My wife and I were looking for BBQ for lunch while camping in Wiggins MS. We decided to try googling the best BBQ in Hattiesburg and Leatha's BBQ came up. After we arrived it was exactly as in the pictures. Service was good and the food was delicious!!! Being an avid smoker, I asked if I could see the smokehouse and speak to the Pitt Master. The pleasant young lady said sure and that he was in the back. I was very surprised to see a young man in his early twenties cooking and manning the smokehouse on his own. He told me his families history and that his grandmother(Leatha) had showed him how to cook. The extremely large smoker was loaded with ribs(beef & Pork) and pork butts. The young was working that smokehouse with ease like he had been doing it for forty years. Even if he would have wanted to he could not would have been able to hide the pride that showed me that day. I am very sure that we will return in the near future.
