1836 DeSoto BBQ + Grill is a hidden gem serving super delicious and excellent food. The menu offers a wide variety, from barbecue and Cajun-Creole influenced meals to home-cooking, amazing sandwiches, and superb appetizers. Specific standout dishes include the barbecue nachos, catfish plate, Southwestern Egg Rolls, cole slaw, fried okra, hushpuppies, cornbread, and the Bourbon Burger. The hamburger steak with onions & gravy with a loaded baked potato is also excellent. The barbecue, including a whole Boston butt, is cooked perfectly, flavorful, and considered better than well-known local spots.
The atmosphere is very cool but the downstairs restaurant is very small, which can feel awkward and cooped up. The place is very clean. Service experiences vary; it can be fabulous, observant, and sweet, making guests feel welcomed and treated like family. However, other times service is lacking, with incidents like a messy barbecue sauce spill not being fully addressed. A fun detail is that beer is served in a koozie that customers can keep.
While the high quality of food does not always match the atmosphere or service, the food is so delicious that many customers plan on coming back for sure. It is highly, highly recommended.
