Not sure what to do with this one. The food was fine enough, sure, but no better than you’d find at any average Mississippi Mexican restaurant. But the grand (and aesthetically confused) interior and claims of authenticity (I ordered from the apparently authentic portion of the menu) felt a little contrary and hollow as I was eating my light-on-flavor meal, which did arrive quickly, even if it was only just fine (the guacamole as an appetizer though was particularly suspect....
Great Mexican food in Oxford. Very thankful they were open Thanksgiving night before egg bowl. Mole sause was very good, margaritas very good, cocktail variety very good. Mississippi is the place for tamales. They sat our party of 12 quickly and served very efficiently. Servers were friendly and attentive and worked very hard to enrich our experience. Recommended.
As a west coaster I’m a little picky with the food I get of the Mexican variety. That being said the El Charro in Oxford MS is the best I’ve had since moving east of the mountains. I can’t tell you how long it’s been since I had carnitas that aren’t just pulled pork or corn tortillas that aren’t a raw, torn and broken mess the second I try to peel it from the queso encrusted plate!
