We stopped in while visiting Elvis' birthplace and were not disappointed! Such a quaint restaurant with amazing staff that made us feel right at home. We tried the dough burger, onion rings and tots! All exceptional! They even cut our dough burgers up so we could each try some- one plain and one with pickle, onion and mustard. The Elvis booth wasn't available at first but as soon as it vacated, the waitress let us go over and sit, taking our picture... again, service, food and atmosphere were so wonderful! Highly recommend adding this stop to your road trip of Elvis!

I was visiting from Iowa and had to check out this iconic drive in. As a restaurant owner of 30 years, I notice a lot of things when I visit an eating establishment. What impressed me the most was the waitress. She was professional, yet also personable. She was fast and efficient, taking care of the whole front of the house by herself. She not only took the orders and served the food, but also bused the tables and ran the cash register. If only all employees displayed the work ethic she did!

Oh, and the food was good, too!

Old-school charm and Elvis history all in one spot!
Stopped in at Johnnie’s Drive-In and had the chance to sit in the famous Elvis Booth. The place feels like stepping back in time — classic diner vibe, friendly service, and simple but tasty food. The burgers and fries hit the spot, and the prices are still old-school reasonable.

It’s cash only, so come prepared, but that just adds to the retro feel. What makes it even cooler is that it’s just around the corner from Elvis’s Birthplace, so you can make a full little Elvis trip out of it. Definitely worth a stop if you’re in Tupelo!

Great service and food! First off, this place is cash only so plan ahead. Known as a place where a young Elvis Presley ate regularly, Johnnie's signature dish is a "doughburger". Some locals told me that the doughburger was a poor person's hamburger. Think a hamburger where the ground beef is replaced with a sort of meat loaf that has a higher percentage of flour to meat. Some people love 'em, others hate 'em. If you're uncertain I would recommend asking your waitress for a sample before ordering one, the servers are very gracious and offered me and my friend a sample. I tasted the doughburger and while I didn't mind it, I wanted to try one of their other sandwiches. I got a steak sandwich with onion rings and a milkshake, all of which were fantastic! Also the prices are very affordable and the diner has a cool atmosphere inside. I would highly recommend this restaurant for Elvis fans and anyone who enjoys classic American food.

Great customer service! Food was delicious! The waitress took a picture of us in Elvis’s booth. Purchased T-shirts as memorabilia . Awesome prices. We definitely recommend this place for any visitor in Tupelo.

Johnnie’s Drive In has been a local mainstay for me and my family for years. It opened in 1945, and my Mom has been a loyal customer for about 65 years. She and my Dad raised me to eat there from the time I was old enough to eat a burger (in the late 60’s). We have been through several owners and have made it fine until the latest one. She has “taken over” from her father in the last few years. She is moody, rude, and (between her and her daughter) is ruining the business. My husband and I have noticed deterioration since this lady has taken over. But, the final blow came this past Saturday when she insulted my 81 year old Mother. My Mom and sister drove up on a particularly crowded Saturday and had to scramble to find a place to park and not get hit. When an oversized van finally moved out of the way, my Mom asked one of the employees in the parking lot if she and my sister could park there (where the van had been). They secured permission, and got the park. A few minutes later, the owner haughtily took the order and returned a little later with the food stating that she didn’t appreciate anyone yelling at “her girls”….and that she “took it personally when someone spoke that way to her daughter” (who is about a 20 something year old carhop). My Mother never said anything out of the way to her daughter. My Mom is a widow who doesn’t get out of the house often since my Dad passed away in 2017. The owner knows my Mom, knows she has been loyal to that business all her life, and also knows me and my husband, as we WERE regulars. So, on the basis of this woman’s rude, haughty attitude, and poor customer service skills, I DO NOT recommend this restaurant to anyone. If this woman will be verbally abusive to a 81 year old widow woman, what is next? No more dough burgers for me and my family!!!

Visited here as part of our tour to Tupelo to see all things Elvis related. Food was very good, I tried the dough burger and it was lovely! Very reasonably priced, staff very friendly and we got to sit in the famous Elvis booth. Thankyou 😊

We stopped off here during our road trip and wow, what a great place. The food was excellent and the service matched it. Very interesting memorabilia around the walls and we got to sit in the Elvis booth. Definitely recommend this restaurant.
