The shrimp was extremely crispy and dark. The French fries were very light and rolled in something and perhaps had been baked. My husband had chicken fried steak. He said the food was fine.

We were visiting Vicksburg and our research pointed us to Walnut Hills for dinner and we were so glad 😁. What a treasure. The ambience was charming, service was great and the fried chicken dinner was absolutely perfect. If you're in the area and trying to find a good spot for a wonderful southern dinner experience, don't hesitate - just go. Also the desserts are delicious!

Walnut Hill is an absolute diamond in terms of the quality of the food and the authenticity that the chef is expressing through his or her culinary art. We ordered two bowls of gumbo and a side salad for each of us. Our wait person, Kenny, was delightful. Let’s talk about the gumbo first. The chicken and sausage gumbo here is absolutely divine. It is authentic as it gets and was accompanied by a healthy serving of rice on the side along with Cornbread muffins. We were also delivered for generous slices of French bread and two rolls that were just fantastic. Our bowls of gumbo were filled lovingly, apparently, with generous hands. There is enough chicken meat, and sausage in it to make even the most hungry person full. The salads were great. Very fresh. The dressings were House made. For dessert we had the tiramisu which was absolutely through the roof delicious. Made with rum and oh so tasty. Will be back to this place one more time. Oh lash thing. It’s in a really nice old home that was established and built in 1880 by a guy name of Rogers. Don’t know much on the history of it, but the house is charming. Enjoy. You’ll really like display.

The southern kitchen at its best: No frills, just plain good food (try the crispy chicken). Plus a very large selection of cakes.

Tucked away in the gentle charm of ol’ town Vicksburg, Miss’ssippi, sits the right fine Walnut Hills eatin’ house. The bill o’ fare offers up three-course suppers that’ll surely tickle your tongue somethin’ fierce. The waitin’ on was quick as a whip, right on time, and polite as you please. I reckon you oughta go there yerself.😊

Thoroughly, thoroughly recommend. Home style southern cooking. Very juicy fried chicken with a crispy and flavourful skin. Fried shrimp dinner was also great. Very friendly service. The dessert section is massive and is made by a neighbour- they are so immaculate we thought they were shop bought! Very friendly service.
Would recommend to anyone staying or passing through.

Food is decent. I ate here about 20 years ago and remember the food being better and round table experience. I really miss that. This place is still solid.

JustOK. Chicken had fantastic breadinf, but meat was dry. Fried green tomatoes were almost fully ripe. Sides were seriously lacking. Grits had no flavor, green beans undercooked, Mac and cheese cold.

This was fantastic. The whole vibe was very Little House on the Prairie fine dining. My husband and I were on a road trip across country and wanted something with real southern quality and boy did we get that. The food was phenomenal. My husband will be talking about the fried chicken and mustard greens for months. He said it was like tasting something that he hadn't had since he was a child. The banana pudding at the end just topped it off. The crab & corn bisque was pretty amazing too. The bread on the shrimp po boy was incredibly soft. It was all around a wonderful experience.

We used to love coming here twice a year as we drove through to visit family. We were always seated in the front part of the house where you can enjoy the charm of this historical establishment and the service was super friendly. However, the last 3 times, we have been seated in the back which looks like more of an overflow seating area with no decor or any kind of a pleasant atmosphere, even though the front rooms were fairly empty or even completely empty. But the greatest disappointment on these last 3 visits has been the lack of friendly service. Not one smile from anyone in the restaurant, which we found very odd.

The food was absolutely delicious but be sure not to miss the cheese cake for dessert. It was the best.
