“Excellent brew house beautifully restored. Highly recommend a visit if visiting Anaconda.
The historic building at 101 Main Street in Anaconda, Montana, that now houses Smelter City Brewing was originally constructed in 1895 and is known as the Electric Light Building. It was built by local entrepreneurs Conrad Kohrs, W. H. Gehrman, and J. M. Boardman, apparently with backing from Marcus Daly, the founder of Anaconda. Early on it housed the Montana Butchering Company, a meat market likely supplying beef from Daly’s Bitterroot Stock Farm and Kohrs’ Deer Lodge ranch. A butcher shop remained at that corner until 1910, when the Anaconda Copper Mining Company purchased the building for use by its Electric Light and Railway Department, Water Department, pay office, and medical offices.“
