The Cabin is a perennial favorite of mine when I visit Big Sky! They serve elk, walleye, and Bison from local area sources. All deliciously prepared, cozy and very “mountain-y” decor, friendly and helpful staff. Usually go there multiple times on my trips!!
The cabin is the best Montana food experience on the mountain. They always have a selection of wild game, fish and vegan options. The drinks are fun and innovative. We had JaRod. He was really nice and helpful. Thanks for a fun night after a fun day of skiing.
Great restaurant and has been wonderful for a long long time. Staff is fantastic. Highly recommend. The Cabin restaurant is one of the reasons we enjoy Big Sky so much.
We have visited this restaurant over the years on our ski trips to big sky. Good food and great ambiance has been consistent over the years
I went to Cabin Bar and Grill yesterday, and it was a mixed bag. The vibe? Nonexistent. It's just an old log house with no charm. The restrooms are outside in the common area, which feels off, and the beat-up dining room chairs don't help. It was crowded, and the service stumbled the waiter didn't bring steak knives until well after our dishes arrived. The food, though, was a bright spot. It came out fast, and we enjoyed a side of bison meatballs small, just three, but tasty. The elk filet and New York strip were solid portions and cooked well. Still, at over $60 per meal, it didn't match up. The quality, presentation, and ambience just don't justify the price. I feel for anyone dropping that kind of money here including me. First and last visit for sure.
Overall meal was good but tainted by a bait and switch with our drinks. Asked if they had Michter's rye. Was told yes so I ordered one. Subsequently ordered two more. Check comes and they are charging $89 per Michter's. I ask about this and the waiter offers to take one off. I press and ask if this is what they charge for a Michter's. After a while I am informed it was Michter's 10 Year. I asked for a Michter's, not a Michter's 10 Year. At best this was incompetence on the part of the waiter, at worst this was an intentional effort to cheat.
The food was extraordinary! We had the bison ribs which were so tender the meat fell off the bones, it was served over perfectly made mashed potatoes. We also had the Elk tenderloin with blackberry port sauce and it was amazing. The veggies were tender and also seasoned to perfection. I had always thought Elk and Bison would be a bit tough and gamey, but we could not get over how tender and tasty the meat was... The seasoning and sauces were a master piece! It was on the expensive side but worth every penny! My first time to Montana and these dishes added to my experiences. A very cozy atmosphere and the decor is soo Montana... I normally don't gush over food but this was extraordinary.

We came in and were nervous because we were the only customers in the restaurant but it was 8:30pm, but a few more reservations trickled in after us. Maté was our server and he was excellent and recommended his favorites. One of them was the bison meatballs and they were incredibly, we could’ve eaten 3 more orders. We also got the trout entree and the elk, both were lick the plate delicious (the elk was top tier). I feel like this place is super underrated. Highly recommend!

It was expensive for what you get, the trout was over cooked and not fresh. The salads were good, my Elk was not that tender. To me the prices were high for what you got. With drinks and bottle of wine for 5 with tip came to $600.00

Lovely menu and backed-up by outstanding cuisine and great service... We sat outside, and it was pleasant, with the background music being "just enough" to complement to chatter and view. Everything we ordered was created and prepared "just right," and we were extremely satisfied with all aspects of the entire meal. VERY friendly and helpful staff, which is always appreciated! The cocktail list is brilliantly imaginative (and very reasonably priced) and we found that both the wines by the glass as well as half- and full-bottle prices were also quite reasonable for a restaurant.
The new owner Matty K runs a fabulous high-end restaurant with a true master's touch in delivering impeccable service, delicious Montana-inspired dishes and a rustic yet upscale slopeside dining experience. The portion sizes are excellent, the cocktail selection delightful and you can count on The Cabin to accommodate even large groups and diners with special dietary requests. The twin filets are always perfect, but definitely try the wild game entrees, the pork chop (seriously, it's excellent) and appetizers--there's no wrong answer on the menu. Can't wait to return to this outstanding locally owned business that's operated with pride. Oh, and hit the Cabin's new outdoor deck area to enjoy a before-dinner drink in the fresh mountain air.
The food was good, the service too, it is a good option if you are in the area

The staff was friendly and attentive. Our waiter Steven was excellent. I always order Copper River salmon when in season and this was the best preparation I've ever had. The owner Matty stop by and chatted and wanted to make sure everything was to our satisfaction.
We travel to Montana several times a year and will go out of our way in the future to dine at the Cabin

Checked in first but was seated after another party. The server chose to get their table first. They knew that party and chose to seat them first while we had to wait a total of ten minutes. Then after that 2 different servers walked past the table several times without saying a word. We got up and left.
