Pretty good food I think we were just unlucky and got in right after a big table. Service took quite a bit of time.

I saw a guy by the kitchen with a 5 gallon bucket of Kikkoman soy sauce. I thought it was odd in a Mexican restaurant but maybe it was just a bucket for another purpose. Then I got the Carne Asada I ordered. It wasn't what I expected from Carne Asada AT ALL, more like Mongolian beef. My husband, who hadn't seen or heard about the soy sauce bucket was pretty surprised and confused. The chips were good.

Let me start with this: I do have a high standard for Latino/Mexican food.
But we need to talk about beans and rice-
They need flavor, I legitimately took a bite of each and tasted basically no flavor. On top of that the rice was dry. The food basically is without any ‘cariño’.
I think there was confusion during our order time in the back because it took about forty minutes for us to get our food. I literally saw a two-top sit, order, be served, eat, pay, and leave before we were able to get our food.
The service was friendly and down to earth but admittedly felt slow.
It typically costs to refill any soda or lemonade.
I’m honestly disappointed. I feel sorry for the wait staff as this likely has to do with administrative decisions.
Atmosphere is basic and fits with the theme, music is American, and building fits fine.
Good luck.

Update: After seeing The owner's response.I'm not surprised that the service sucks so much. Amazed that you've been in business that long, Won't be getting any of my business again. Complete narcissist blaming me, Instead of asking any questions.
Service was horrible!! drinks were nasty, didn't drink half of them, ordered 4 different drinks, and didn't have one full Margarita in me when I left. waitress never said 2 words to us. Drove out there just to enter the raffle, and nobody even bothered to talk about it had to ask. Had ask for more chips, I had to ask for napkins. It was not a good experience. The $7 guacamole was not impressive. Actually, I took the jalapenos out of our margaritas to give it some flavor. The $27 appetizer from the kitchen was amazing!! I would drive out there just to order that again and not drink anything there. The server did not deserve the $17 tip. I left, but I know she has to tip out the Busser, who brought us the salsa, not her and the bartender. And maybe the other waitress who actually took our second drink order because my daughter flagged her down.

Been going for 25 years. Great local bar and restaurant
Restaurantji Recommends
Never been to the restaurant and never will because Montana is a gringo Mexican food destination. That said, I do like their hot sauce. It’s an elevated version of Tabasco, more flavor and more heat. I bought the sauce at a market in Livingston and used it in 10 states. Well travelled hot sauce just tastes better and it helps when you start with a good sauce. Thanks El Topo!!!
Recently stopped in El Topo while visiting family in Bigfork. Enjoyed a wonderful meal -- a smothered bean & cheese burrito -- while my partner had the veggie fajitas. Staff is friendly, drinks are a strong pour, and the style of Mexican food reminds me more of Tex-Mex. Will likely visit again while in town.

Paid for chips and salsa. Got a burrito was 19$ I didn't get it wet and sure enough on the plate there lied a medium sized burrito. 19 dollars I still can't believe I paid that much. It wasn't tightly rolled, loosely spilled out and the only garnish was a to go container filled with a half a bite of sourcream lol. No rice and beans. Had to get up multiple times to ask for chips salsa and refills and each time the waitress and bartender were just talking the whole time only 2 other tables. I don't review often but I got sick after eating at this poor representation of Montana hospitality, but a great representation of unchecked greed. Any local supporting restaurants of this caliber are part of the problem.

Generally I don't leave negative reviews. I'm sorry to do that here. For several years I have found a steady decline in the fajita specialty house salad. I usually get the steak. The first several of these I got was so good giving lettuce, tomatoes, cucumbers, perrpers and 4 to 5 nice long strips of steak that werent thin. Perfect for getting a healthy dose of veggies and good size portion of great meat. Than it all became less. Tonight I thought I'd give it a try hoping for the best. Gotta say it's probably the worst expensive salad I've ever had. Tons of greens with little tiny chips of crispy brown somethings that were supposed to be meat I guess. Certainly not nicely prepared steak. A complete bust. I won't be doing this again.
