We’ve lived in Bigfork for 30 years and Laughing Horse is a mainstay among the finest dining establishments. A welcoming place where you may just be greeted by two well-behaved dogs. The service, food and atmosphere is spectacular.

Ten of us just had a fantastic dinner at the Laughing Horse! The food was fantastic, great service, and a wonderful atmosphere. The well behaved family dogs made the night even more special. Can’t wait to go back!

I dined here recently and was unfortunately disappointed with my entire experience.

When entering, there are two golden retrievers that are allowed to wander wherever they like. This includes begging at your feet underneath the table. They were also permitted to go in and out of the building where it had been rainy, so not only were they begging but the smell of wet dog permeated the whole dining area.

Alongside the two dogs is a parrot that is also in the dining area. It screeches and pecks the wall, and whenever it would jump down the staff/chef would pick it up and place it back on its perch which was incredibly unsanitary.

I ordered the lamb at the recommendation of the waitress. The meat was cooked well but had no seasoning whatsoever, I also sampled a burger at the table and it was very dry and overcooked. The appetizers we ordered were also bland and left a lot to be desired.

When going around the grounds, there were two plates of rotten fruit left out. I’m not sure if this was for wild animals or bugs or some other reason but it was quite gross to look at. There was also a huge cloud of gnats in the yard which I understand can’t be helped sometimes, but I imagine rotten fruit lures bugs.

The waitstaff were very pleasant to work with but I would not recommend anyone eating here.

Absolute gem of a place. We stayed two nights for a nearby wedding and it was such a neat little cozy place. They had great food and great atmosphere. I will stay here again on holiday.

Ok celebrated our 40 year anniversary and what a totally unexpected delight! The restaurant is located in an enchanted garden visited by birds!!! and dogs do a table visit, only if you wish…now for the FOOD!!! Super WOW! They do not turn tables and the staff was refreshing! We got a table visit from the chef, meeting her made the experience so much more intimate!

The Laughing Horse Lodge is an absolute gem in Swan Lake, Montana. The rooms are small but comfortable. There is a beautiful courtyard filled with flowers and outdoor seating. The host is incredibly nice. Breakfast is included, and she made amazing hash browns and French toast. We also had dinner there one evening and were very impressed with everything. She graciously accommodated our dietary restrictions (gluten free). She also provides great recommendations for local hikes. There are several resident dogs and cats who are all very friendly. Note: There is little cell signal but wi-fi is included.

We drove out from Kalispell for dinner on the recommendation of a friend. Lovely al fresco dining in a spacious garden, and the musicians were a nice touch. The food and beverage selection were great--don't skip the huckleberry peach pie. I liked the two golden retrievers who wandered around, visiting diners and accepting scratches but not begging.

The room was comfortable and clean. We loved the enclosed garden space with its art, flowers, birds and dogs. Such a delightful stay!

A wonderful, fairyland oasis we were lucky to find. We ate dinner our first night - excellent food and service. The roaming dogs and cat made us feel right at home. The beds were incredibly comfortable. We slept with the window open and cuddled under the blankets - so wonderful as we had left a heat wave back home in Maryland. The most amazing memory, besides the delightful and relaxing courtyard with great music and visiting birds at the feeder and water fountain, was the amazing night sky! I have never experienced so many stars at night. This was our nightly entertainment. We just laid on our truck bed and stared at the sky for hours. Highly recommend this bed and breakfast lodge as a true Montana treasure. Kathleen can also offer good recommendations for things to see and do in the area. Downtown Big Fork, 20 minute drive, offers quaint shopping, a few restaurants and a nice, easy trail above a cascading river.
