I had an overnight in Helena and wanted good food. I check local listings and Cafe Zydeco popped up. I reviewed the menu online and I was hooked! The food was extremely good. I've been to New Orleans many times and this food holds up to anything from the Big Easy! Thank you for very good, tasty food!!

What a fantastic treat in an unexpected place. Poboys are filled with goodness, gumbo reminds me of the Big Easy. Try this restaurant you won't b disappointed

Great food. And great service. The oyster po boy was fantastic and so was the deep fried bread pudding. Really nice place

Disappointing experience. I was excited to see they had newly added a Lobster Roll to their menu. Imagine my disappointment when the Lobster Roll turned out to be Krab salad on a hoagie bun?! Terrible! Even my very forgiving husband said it was awful. He, however was very pleased with the catfish and fried green tomato Po boy, and my son was equally pleased with his fried chicken Po boy. My parents enjoyed the jambalaya. Only luke-warm about the red beans and rice. Portion size for all items was huge. Employees were friendly even though they were being run ragged because of the labor shortage.

Great tasting food. Portions size is large, making it a great option for splitting a meal for lunch or date night.

Was a much better restaurant at its old location and is presently bordering being a Montana stereotype, and not for the better. If you want to read copies of right wing conspiracy theories, eg, Epoch Times for your reading material available on the counter, this is the place for you. The food is ok but menu is tired. Will not return.

Pretty good red beans and rice. A large and varied menu. Next visit will take more time to investigate some of the other menu offerings. Quick service, clean and tasty Cajun food in Helena, Montana. Need a new picture. That one is of old location.

The seafood gumbo and jambalaya were the best i have ever had. The space is beautifully decorated with old paraphernalia and stuff form the 50s and 60s.

Great food with a New Orleans theme. Having been to New Orleans before, it was a treat to find such great food in Helena that reminded me of there. The staff was warm and friendly and eager to make great recommendations.

Good but spendy

Since they closed their location in Missoula, I took advantage of a trip to Helena to bring a Vietnam Veteran to the Ft. Harrison VA clinic. The food was just as wonderful as it was in Missoula. The seafood gumbo was fantastic, the Cajun gyro was great, and the fried seafood basket was very good, although I never found an oyster in it. The decor and atmosphere were very authentic (especially the little nook that looks very much like Bourbon Street). Every bit as good as New Orleans. Be sure to check out the sayings on the napkin holders on the tables. Hilarious! Highly recommended!

Disappeared in the blink of an eye, no one even knew they existed. They never tried to advertise or do any marketing whatsoever. Moving to Missoula next week and if there is a location there they have lost my business permanently due to weird/shady business practice.

I know my Cajun food because I met and married my wife in Louisiana. Until today, I didn’t think it was possible for anyone, and I mean anyone to make a better bowl of seafood gumbo than my sweet Mother-in-Law, Jean. So its a good thing I don’t live in Helena because choosing between Zydeco’s gumbo and Jean’s gumbo would place me in a difficult position. A lot of commercial places that believe they serve gumbo just fall short. The roux is too light, too thin, too dark, too spicy, and too short on seafood. The small bowl of gumbo for $12.95 came in a 24 oz bowl that my wife and I had no problem splitting. It came jam packed full of crawfish tails, medium to large shrimp, and fish. When I put my spoon in the bowl it literally stood up on it own because of all the goodies in the gumbo. The roux was perfect with a deep rich flavor with just a slight kiss of spice. We also split the shrimp poor boy sandwich and it was really good. I don’t know what it is about New Orleans, but they just have better bread, but the shrimp were cooked perfectly and it was accompanied by a large amount of lettuce and tomatoes. Finally we ordered a half order of beignets. They were better than the ones you can get the French Quarter. When you are in “Cow” country Zydeco is a welcome change of pace.

Cafe Zydeco is a suprising Cajun food place, in Helena, Mt. I had their most popular seafood gumbo with 1/2 of a shrimp and crawfish Po boy. they were very good. Mywife had a French dip roast beef sandwich, It was good, but the beef was thin sliced, the au jus, was not very beef flavored, not very good. We also got a couple Beignets that were amazing. Very light and puffy!
