Ever want for the feel of being in a mass killing, I prefer visiting. Seems like surreal but a haunting feeling of death. Give them a A+

Loved the history and how it looked inside but it was so smoke filled from the fireplace that our eyes were burning

What an amazing steak! On two different occasions I had the best steak dinner of my life. It's the best I've ever found.

I went looking for a great steak dinner. Found out they only have fried bar baskets on Mondays. We went ahead and ordered a couple of baskets. The captains basket and a shrimp basket. All of it was pretty much inedible. I was highly disappointed.

Such a cool experience and an amazing steak! I was staying in Dillon but decided to take a short drive to try this place and so glad I did. The ladies working as well as the guy cooking my steak were very personable! So much history here and great food - you won't be disappointed!

First the good: steak was excellent, fries were crispy and plentiful. Now the bad: we had to sit in the bar because the dining room was closed. They sat us at a high table (I like to have my feet on the floor) where it was too dark to read the menu. The waiter/Owner told us the special was 2 steaks for the price of one but you had to pay for the sides. I thought he meant for just for the second steak - my mistake. Then he asked what kind of potato we wanted, what dressing on the salad and did we want green beans. Because I couldn't read the menu anyway, I didn't realize everything was al la carte. A small salad on a saucer with some greens, one cherry tomato, 2 slices of cucumber and 2 baby carrots is $5. He told us wine was $4. They never came back to check on how things were or to see if we wanted drink refills, etc. I had to run him down to get a box. When we paid the total just came up on the screen. I thought it was high but paid and left a tip. When we got home and I looked at my texted receipt, I realized they charged us $6 more for ribeye when we had New York and $8 for the wine instead of 4. We called and left a message 13 minutes after they closed to complain about the overcharge. We still haven't heard back 2 days later. $42 for just a 12oz. steak is the most I have ever paid in Montana. I should have been more careful in checking the prices but $55 for a full meal is a lot. I wouldn't be writing this, however, if they hadn't overcharged us.

What a great place. We rolled in while riding the great divide mountain bike route and, despite them being busy, the staff pulled out all thebstops to find rooms for us. Fernandez the chef got up early to make us burritos to set us up for the day.

Great place, very authentic and cyclist friendly.

This may actually be my first Google review, but I stopped here for the night while biking the Continental Divide Trail, and this place is outstanding. The history of this building is fascinating, and you can tell that it’s well cared for and respected. The small staff are beyond friendly, and a joy to talk to. It’s easy to feel right at home here in Grant. The rooms are clean and tidy with plenty of options. I’ve never felt more comfortable, or at home — even if just for one night.

But the food is what really sets the Horse Prairie apart. The dry aged ribeye blew me away, and was easily the best cut of meat I have ever had. Despite being made solely by Jason, the owner, the service was fast. It’s obvious that he takes pride in his work, and it was an honor to eat here. I can’t overstate enough how good the food was.

This may be the most welcoming and authentic hotel/restaurant/bar I have ever visited, and will return in an instant the next time I’m in SW Montana. I am beyond appreciative to Jason for everything that he does to keep this piece of Montana history alive and thriving.

From Phoenix, AZ was referred by our realtor, she knew it was our anniversary and said we would love it! She was correct, it had fabulous atmosphere, food and drinks. The owner himself prepared our food. He was very personable as well as his staff. Highly recommend you stop off at this quaint little steakhouse you will not be disappointed!
