Dinner was an absolute delight. We started with the Truffled Amaltheia Goat Cheese & Mushroom Wontons, which were creamy and packed with rich flavors. The Bison Bourguignon was savory and perfectly seasoned, a true comfort dish. For the main course, the Huckleberry Brined Chicken was incredibly juicy and bursting with flavor, while the Scallops & Tenderloin Medallions were melt-in-your-mouth perfection. I couldn’t resist saving a portion of the Medallions to take home, just so I could extend the experience a bit longer. David and Steve provided wonderful service. Overall, an unforgettable meal!

Wild Caddis is an absolute staple restaurant in the Big Sky Valley area. Only a 20 minute drive from Big Sky Resort, they always offer an impeccable dining experience.
During my recent visit I was pleasantly surprised by our server Mary's pleasant conversation and relatability. She showed incredible social intelligence and was a delight to meet.
Their newest sommelier, David was a wealth of knowledge about the wine selection and even showed us the beautiful wine cellar at the restaurant. If you have a chance to dine here, I highly recommend requesting both of these employees!

What a meal!!! This restaurant has the best food in the area. The bison dish was out of this world so tender you didn’t even need a knife. And the Coqui Saint Jacque is off the chart. These two dishes were made with Perfection. I highly recommend this spot. You will not be disappointed. Hats off the chef. The wait staff is very attentive and the atmosphere is beautiful.

Our experience at Wild Caddis was unforgettable, unfortunately for the wrong reasons. Don't let the stock photos on their website fool you. Their entrees are wildly overpriced and the food is very lackluster.

On first impression the restaurant seems very quaint with rustic Montana inspired decor with modern local art on display. It felt like an elegant place. Unfortunately the feeling quickly evaporated as we were greeted by a strange and overly smiley host/owner/don't know? who tried to lure us down to the wine cellar to see their 2k bottles of wine. We were the only people there at 6pm on a saturday night, which was my first clue that we were about to be treated to a truly 'fine dining' experience.

At first glance the menu seems elegant, with dishes like escargot, foie gras and waygu filet. At $48-80 per entrée I was really hoping they would deliver some delicious food. The appetizers were actually good. I had the french onion soup which was flavorful but the crostini was soggy and seemed like it had been soaking in the broth for an unknown duration and practically disintegrated in my spoon. I also tried some of the beet salad which was well composed and not overly dressed.

The main dishes, however, were abysmal. Between the group we had the Bison steak, lamb chops, a custom vegan dish, whole branzino, and their scallop special.

The actual meat from the Bison and Lamb had good flavor and was not overcooked. The accompanying polenta for the lamb chops, however, was gritty, bland and reminded me of baby food. The red wine reduction sauce that was sloppily spooned over the dish had little depth of flavor, was under seasoned and was slightly sour. The carrot 'battonetes' also lacked seasoning and were slightly undercooked. Not even remotely worth the $67 they charge for it.

The chef had attempted to prepare a vegan dish for one of my party members. This consisted of a pesto spaetzle which had somehow also acquired capers from the branzino dish. There was a nearly deep fried cylindrical block of cabbage on top which was extremely oily and the dish was underwhelming. At least it was a cheap $58.

The scallop special was....not so special. They charge $80 and only give you 4 scallops. They were barely seared yet somehow the scallops themselves were overcooked and rubbery. They were smothered with a strange and overly rich cream sauce and were practically swimming in their watery grave. The asparagus and 'whipped tower' of potatoes were equally underwhelming.

The branzino was essentially $58 cat food, and was a massive disappointment for multiple members of the group. It is advertised as a lemon stuffed fish, but instead it is smothered with what appeared to be an entire jar of capers. The fish was sitting on a bed of oddly and very pungently flavored mix of either corn meal or couscous? I'm not sure exactly, but there was a large amount of it and it was very unpalatable. The fish meat itself was overly salty and slightly overcooked. The 'brocoli au gratin' consisted of very large pieces of broccoli covered in cheese sauce and breadcrumbs. It was more reminiscent of something you might find out of your grandma's 1950s casserole cookbook than a fine dining recipe.

We unfortunately couldn't skip dessert as they had preemptively prepared a vegan coconut based mousse for our party member. It was very grainy and not a proper mousse consistency. We also tried some vanilla ice cream. At least they can successfully scoop ice cream into a bowl. That was the highlight of the meal for sure.

I'm not sure where all the positive reviews are from on open table and google. Maybe there is new management poorly executing a dated menu trying to piggyback on old success? Maybe they are paid friends? Or maybe people just don't mind dropping hundreds of dollars on dog food. Stop trying to serve branzino, o

We ate at Wild Caddis every night and once for breakfast during our three night stay at the Rainbow Ranch Lodge. This is the main restaurant in the Lodge. The food is amazing here, and so was the service and atmosphere. This is more of a fancy dining experience, but aside from breakfast, we stayed less formal on our visits and ate on the cozy couches in the bar section of the restaurant.

In any event, Wild Caddis is one of the best restaurants in the Big Sky area. We highly recommend it here and would definitely say it's worth the 20-minute drive from the base of Big Sky, especially if you are looking for nice dinner options during your trip out there.

I cannot understate how deeply weird this place is. Not weird in a quirky, charming way, weird in a frustrating and unpleasant way. We stood at the hostess station for a solid 15 minutes without anyone helping us. Workers would quickly scurry by without making eye Contact, and eventually I had to roam through the dining room to track down a waiter who assured me that someone would come and help me in due time. Eventually a hostess arrived with a permanent scowl on her face, and a look of incredulity that my family and I would like to sit and eat dinner. She told me that somebody would eventually see us, and we waited another 10 minutes before being seated.

Our server, I believe his name was, Cisco was actually very nice, and genuinely seemed to be working hard, but was a bit overwhelmed. The food was nothing special. I ordered French onion soup and the cheese had the consistency of rubber. Steak was fine. Nothing to write home about. Roasted carrots were raw. The mediocrity of the food was quite surprising given the exorbitant cost of it. I’d say the average main course was $65.

So in sum, you’ve got Michelin three star prices, Average at best food, friendly, but overwhelmed Service like the cheesecake factory at rush-hour and a host Who would be better suited to any job that does not involve human contact.

After 15 hours of travel, not exactly the Montana welcome I was hoping for. One star.

Dinner at Wild Caddis was fabulous. Incredible dishes, including duck with a berry sauce and the most tender steak with morels and other mushrooms. Everything was delightful!
