I’m a Canadian on a road trip through the United States, and honestly, it’s been incredible. Down here — it still feels like the land of the free — the people I’ve met have been some of the kindest, most respectful, down-to-earth folks I’ve ever encountered. Everywhere I’ve gone, I’ve felt welcome… until I walked into this restaurant in Great Falls.

The place wasn’t even busy — maybe five other diners total — yet I was greeted like I’d just walked into a private event uninvited. The hostess seated me, dropped a menu on the table, and disappeared.

Twenty minutes later, still no service. No “I’ll be right with you,” no drink order — nothing. Eventually, someone I hadn’t even met dropped off a glass of ice water and walked off without a word. I waited even longer until the hostess finally returned to take my order. I asked for a pint of beer with my meal.

Another twenty minutes passed before that beer showed up. By that point, I had actually forgotten I ordered one. When my food finally arrived, I took one bite — literally one — before the waitress came back. I thought she was checking to see how the meal was. Nope. She dropped the bill on the table and walked away.

My beer was still full. My food barely touched. No “Would you like another drink?” No “Can I get you anything else?” Just the bill. I had been planning to order a bubble tea to go and take it back to my hotel, but at that point? Forget it. I left cash on the tray, finished my last bite, and left before my beer even warmed up.

The service was flat-out atrocious, and the whole experience felt cold, like I wasn’t welcome there in the first place. It’s a shame — every other stop on my trip has reminded me why I love visiting the States. This one just reminded me what bad service feels like.

As a heavily modified person (piercings, tattoos, etc), I felt judged eating here. My server seemed scared of me. I got an oral procedure done recently that I knew would freak people out a bit as I relearn to eat, so I asked for a corner for a little privacy, and yet - they stuck me by the front for everyone to stare anyway. Boo.

I will also add that I’ve gotten the Veggie Ramen in the past, and was my favorite - but today, the bowl looked SO sad. The most tiny, pathetic bok choy leaf (normally you’d get a whole bok choy), two baby tomato slices, etc. Not much of a “veggie” ramen if you ask me. At least the marinated eggs are always good. I really don’t mean to be a hater, I used to come here all the time. But I don’t think I’ll be back after this visit, as I felt I was VERY discriminated for my appearance.

PS alternative people don’t bite!! and we have money, these tattoos aren’t cheap (-: you lost good business indeed.

Normally when we go to Hokkaido we have a great experience. This time was terrible. The server got almost everything we ordered incorrect and when we said something about it she said, “oh yes we can absolutely fix this.” She took it back to the kitchen and then brought it back to us and said that we could pay for a whole new bowl if we wanted to, to fix her mistake! Unbelievable!
In the food industry, you are never supposed to take a dish away from the table and then bring it back again. That is completely unsanitary.

The food didn’t have as much flavor as it usually has and a lot of the cooked food we ordered was way overcooked.

This place is usually good, I really hope they correct the mistakes and get back to where they were. I would hate not having this restaurant open in town.

The woman standing at the door was extremely rude. She threw the menu and bill on our table with a loud noise. (I'm not sure if she's a racist, because she doesn't treat others that way.)

The food was okay, but the meat in the spicy ramen bowls must have been sitting out for a while—it had a foul smell.

Got sat down and didn't even get a water or greeting for 10 mins. I saw one the young ladies continuesly wipe her nose and proceeded to bag an order. Being served sauce in a plastic to go salsa cup, 🤔🫥

Gyoza barely hot.

Mexican roll was good but covered in too much sause? It gave me a melted cheese texture and that's not something I want when eating sushi.

Hokkaido is an awesome restaurant for great sushi and huge bowls of hot, flavorful ramen. We had the spider roll, Bozeman roll and spicy tuna roll. We also enjoyed garlic ramen. Our server, Eva was very friendly, helpful and attentive without being over bearing. Keep up the good work, Eva!

If you’re in Great Falls and craving a hip but relaxed atmosphere where you can enjoy a great meal stop in to Hokkaido. You won’t be disappointed!

Me and my husband loved this place. It was my husbands birthday. So I called two days ahead to ask for the “birthday cake& gift card deal.” When we got there and told them who I was and how I called ahead for the birthday cake, the lady laughed. Than they were trying to sit us between two big party groups. Asked if we could have a booth (two free) and was very rudely asked to wait another 15 mins to clean and set up table. Waited 15 mins. The table had nothing on it. The waitress had to put the cutlery and dishes out as we were sitting. And at the end of the meal my husband wasn’t even done his ramen, and had half of his sushi still on the table. The waitress put the bill down, and asked if we wanted a to go box. We weren’t even there an hour. And at the end no gift card, no cake. Just really bad service and really bad communication, and don’t advertise if you aren’t going to do it.

Americanized take on a few Japanese dishes. Cost-saving in effect with minimal proteins added and more starch. E.g. Chicken Curry Rice with two tiny slivers of chicken, but huge amounts of potato and rice. Tastes and spices were bland. Rice was overcooked. Staff has tunnel vision. I had to wave my hand in the air for more than five minutes before I could get anyone's attention. The Lady Gaga and other modern hits don't contribute much to the atmosphere. All in all just another standard issue American restaurant trying to make a new take on Japanese food and failing horribly.

Have know idea what happened. When Hokkaido 1st opened flavors were amazing. This has definitely changed. So bland. Chicken had zero flavor broth tasted like nothing. Sushi tasted like nothing and I think the rice was from the day before. The egg was gross. Noodles... really ... veggies wow.. there was nothing there. I would have happer with cup of noodles and Albertsons sushi.
Staff has no love anymore. What happen to the music..
Let's just say for the price definitely not worth it. They lost something. Thanks for a few great meals.. Will not be back.
