This is a great coffee house; good coffees and great service. The atmosphere is friendly, just enough urban without being crowded. My only reason for 4 instead of 5 stars- the dining area is split between 2 floors with most of the space being upstairs. A minor inconvenience. Overall I like the place.

We’ve been on the road for quite a while driving through WA, ID, MT. We’ve decided to stay overnight in Helena. This morning we went to 1889 Coffehouse for breakfast! WOW! Great coffee, food and the most friendly staff we have encountered so far (including Alaska)!! Thanks, guys!!

I ordered a latte and a chorizo breakfast sandwich at the drive through. The coffee was good BUT the sandwich was completely frozen/soggy in the middle when he handed it to me… even though it took 20 minutes for them to “prepare” it. I’m pretty upset that I payed for something I’m not able to eat…. They should’ve known not to hand a frozen sandwich to a customer…. I highly advise that if you want good food that you go anywhere else but here.

I want to enjoy this place but after a few visits I can’t find any reason to keep trying. For as thick and over flavored as the coffee drinks are that’s how dry and flavorless the food is. And the kids working here give the impression customers are an inconvenience they’d rather not deal with.

Didnt understand my order and the drinks that were correct were mid at best
Service and coffee were very good. Had a single bad experience, but it turned out to be the exception to the rule. Have been meeting clients there quite often, and the staff is quite friendly, willing to help, and the coffee is great. I continue to return over and over.

Love it here but the last few months every time I order my coffee half sweet and very clearly express how much I DONT want sweet coffee, they don’t write down that I want half sweet and give it to me practically extra sweet. Managers, please make sure your baristas know what half sweet means. Thank you. When I say “I want a LITTLE bit of x and a LITTLE bit of y….overall everything is HALF SWEET please” it means I dont want it so sweet. Thank you. Hopefully this problem will be better soon. Maybe I am just too picky because I work as a barista somewhere else.
